Is Judith too old lady?

Is [name_f]Judith[/name_f] too old lady? I actually think the name is kind of cute. What do you think of the Hebrew original Yehudit or Yudit?

I like [name_f]Judith[/name_f] as well, although I don’t think I’d ever actually use it. I’ve never met anyone named [name_f]Judith[/name_f], though I have met several [name_f]Judy[/name_f]'s, so I guess that’s where the dated connotation comes in. I think more of the Book of [name_f]Judith[/name_f] (a book in the Apocrypha) than anything else when I hear the name. It’s definitely usable imo:)

I think it’s usable, particularly if she goes by [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_f]Judy[/name_f], etc. It seems ahead of trend. I don’t know where you’re from/where you’re living but I don’t think the Hebrew variants seem very usable in the US (or at least where I am, PNW.)

i love [name_f]Judith[/name_f]. I think she is ready for a comeback and as the pp said- ahead of the curve and i think that’s a good thing. I also love the Hebrew variants- well technically [name_f]Judith[/name_f] is the variant. I don’t think its offensive for you to use them even if you aren’t Jewish but I think unless you really prefer those I would stick [name_f]Judith[/name_f]…just easier to say

I think [name_f]Judith[/name_f], used in full, would be refreshing. To my ear, nickname [name_f]Judy[/name_f] is a bit more dated, but if it developed naturally, because she just seems to be a [name_f]Judy[/name_f], it would still be fine.

Any more thoughts? Thank you berries!

I think it’s absolutely gorgeous, and just how cool is [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] Gentileschi’s [name_f]Judith[/name_f]?

I like [name_f]Judith[/name_f]! The name itself is not often heard, but the popular “[name_u]Jude[/name_u]” and the ending “ith” like in the beautiful [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] or [name_f]Edith[/name_f] make it still seem familiar. [name_f]Judith[/name_f] NN [name_f]Judy[/name_f] falls right in the category of the name [name_u]June[/name_u] NN [name_f]Junie[/name_f] to me - a little bit old-fashioned, but in a good way!

It does seem quite old-ladyish to me, however I can see it coming back. I know my mother thinks [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is an old lady name, but that has recently returned, probably due to many new parents moving the film as a child. Characters definitely have a way of giving new life to a name. I think this may happen, to a lesser extent, with [name_f]Judith[/name_f] and [name_f]Judy[/name_f]. The baby of the main character of The Walking Dead, [name_m]Rick[/name_m] Grimes, is called [name_f]Judith[/name_f], so I could see it having a fresh appeal. Also you have the Zootopia character [name_f]Judy[/name_f] Hopps.

I knew one [name_f]Judith[/name_f], a very old neighbour! I think it’s a nice name, but not sure if it’s quite ready for a come back!

I would stick with the [name_f]Judith[/name_f] spelling, I find the Hebrew ones too out there, and I’m sure she would constantly be correcting people regarding the spelling and pronunciation.

I’m in the minority, but I do think of [name_f]Judith[/name_f] as old fashioned. However…the little girl on Walking Dead is name [name_f]Judith[/name_f], so maybe it will see a comeback!
