Is Kit a good name? Really?

Nameberry lists it as a top on “best boy names ever”.

[name_f][/name_f]

Background: [name_f]My[/name_f] DH really likes the name [name_m]Fox[/name_m] for our upcoming baby boy, as he wants a play on his own name (T0dd). I am torn on [name_m]Fox[/name_m] because our son’s name is R0bin and IDK about having two obvious animal names. I was thinking maybe [name_m]Kit[/name_m] might be a good alternative (baby fox)? But is it a good name, really? Not interested in [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] btw. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_m]Kit[/name_m].

(also, for those following my posts… we were torn on Desmond/Cedric last week but now my DH has grabbed [name_m]Fox[/name_m] and won’t let go)

I think it is!

personally I think [name_m]Kit[/name_m] is adorable, but sturdy enough to be worn at all ages. I really like it!

[name_m]Fox[/name_m] and [name_m]Kit[/name_m] were the finalists for my son! I love them both. I too would be weary of two animal names and go with [name_m]Kit[/name_m].

That’s funny. Great minds think alike!

I really like it personally! It makes me think of [name_m]Kit[/name_m] [name_m]Harrington[/name_m]. (Just found out his full name is [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], I like it better on its own)

I think [name_m]Kit[/name_m] is great! It would work well on both a little kmboy and a grown man.

[name_f][/name_f]

I also love the subtle tie to [name_m]Fox[/name_m] with out it being soo tied to your husband’s name.

I like [name_m]Kit[/name_m] a lot [name_f][/name_f]- snappy and cool but classic too

I am biased because my husband is a [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ‘Kit’ but I think it’s a great name, dashing and smart. [name_m]Kit[/name_m] and R0bin go well together, they’re both centuries-old nicknames so they’ve got a traditional feel, but without being at all clunky. [name_m]Kit[/name_m] has zip and freshness and suits all ages.

[name_m]Kit[/name_m] is a fine name, just not my sort of thing. It sounds like [name_m]Kit[/name_m] is perhaps not your usual style so you’re a little unsure. If a friend came to me in this situation I’d say: check in with yourself that you’re fully into the idea and not just trying to make it work. You both get equal say and wanting something intensely doesn’t give that person more voting rights.

Good luck with your search!

Firstly love R0b1n :nest_with_eggs:

Anyways onto [name_m]Kit[/name_m] I think he’s gorgeous! I really like [name_m]Kit[/name_m] he’s handsome, outdoorsy, classic and sounds really sweet with R0b1n. They are both established nickname classics that feel well established with cool animal associations. I think [name_m]Kit[/name_m] would make a gorgeous brother name.

It’s not for me (because it makes me think “kitten”) but I think it’s objectively a fine name! I knew a [name_m]Kit[/name_m] when I lived in the UK, he was a guy in his 20s and he wore it really well! No one seemed surprised by it.

I like [name_m]Kit[/name_m] better as a nickname for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] since on its own, it reminds me of the old American [name_f]Girl[/name_f], [name_m]Kit[/name_m]! However, [name_m]Robin[/name_m] and [name_m]Kit[/name_m] would be really sweet together (and I love that they would have a subtle connection, not like two super-obvious animal names!)

[name_m]Kit[/name_m] is super cute! He is zippy & fun and fits all ages. I love the variation on [name_m]Fox[/name_m] to honor your husband, and he sounds so lovely with R0bin.
[name_f][/name_f]I’d also suggest maybe using [name_m]Kit[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Cedric[/name_m]? All the sounds are there, and it feels like a good compromise.

It’s a great name! I’m biased as I have a [name_m]Kit[/name_m] (just [name_m]Kit[/name_m], not Christopher)

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you? How has that been? What inspired your choice? Also, what is the mn if you don’t mind me asking? We were thinking [name_m]Kit[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m].

[name_m]Kit[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] is lovely [name_f][/name_f] Our [name_m]Kit[/name_m] has two middles which are honour names for my dad and Kit’s great grandpa who passed away. He is [name_m]Kit[/name_m] S1mon St@nley.
[name_f][/name_f]I’m so pleased we chose [name_m]Kit[/name_m]. It suits him perfectly, he’s two now. It’s been great and mainly well received, especially by younger people who mention [name_m]Kit[/name_m] Harington or [name_m]Kit[/name_m] O’Connor (from the show Heartstoppers). We live in a rural town (UK) where people generally aren’t that adventurous with names, so some people are surprised as it’s a bit unusual for up here.
[name_f][/name_f]I’m a teacher so I wanted something that wasn’t popular/had aassociations with past students and easy to spell/pronounce. We picked it for those reasons and mainly because we just loved the name. Also [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] is a family name, and although our [name_m]Kit[/name_m] is just [name_m]Kit[/name_m], it feels like a nice nod to all the Christophers in the family too.
[name_f][/name_f]Good luck choosing a name!

I really like [name_m]Kit[/name_m]! It’s easy to spell and say, as someone said above, and is cute but is mature enough to work on all ages too.

I like the suggestion of [name_m]Kit[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Cedric[/name_m], or maybe another name. I really really like it on its own for a baby and child, even teenager, but am undecided how I feel about it for a grown man- maybe it would just need to grow on me.

[name_f][/name_f]

also, if you’re thinking of using [name_m]Kit[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m], it did right away make me think of [name_m]Katt[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] who is a pretty well-known male actor in the US. Not sure if others would make the connection though
