Is Lee too Masculine?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,
So, I’m pretty adamant about using the name [name_u]Lee[/name_u] as a middle name in a combo (whether or not for a future child I’m not sure). It’s my middle name (hence the username) and a family name, too.

Despite all this, I have been getting a bit of feedback saying that it’s too masculine. So my question is, is it really that masculine? I know it’s unisex, and that it’s more commonly used on males, but I personally think that it’s as usable on females than it is males. I’ve also been contemplating changing the spelling to [name_f]Lea[/name_f], but I don’t like [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]. My only issue with [name_f]Lea[/name_f] is that it might be mistaken for lee-UH.

So, what are your thoughts?

I know one woman named [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] and a girl named [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-[name_u]Leigh[/name_u] so it that that it the more widely used spelling for females. However I think [name_u]Lee[/name_u] is still perfectly usable - particularly since you are using it as a middle name. I wouldn’t use [name_f]Lea[/name_f] because I would immediately assume it was pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-uh.
If you wanted to use it as a first you could hyphenate it or include it in a name. For example [name_f]Annaleigh[/name_f] or [name_f]Annalee[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]. (I do realise these names aren’t your style but it just an example).
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I know a [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and she wears it beautifully, I would never consider it masculine on her! My cousin is a [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and my niece is named [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and I’ve never considered the name to be too masculine.

Thank you for your feedback! I suppose it won’t matter as much if it’s a middle. I really like the idea of hyphenating it as well! Thanks again.

Thank you! I do agree that it can be worn beautifully, if one can pull it off.

Personally, I think its all boy. One of my cousins is [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and I know of a couple more [name_u]Lee[/name_u]'s and they’re all boys. I have never once met a girl called [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. You can definitely use [name_u]Lee[/name_u] as a girls name because I know a lot of people do. If you were to use it though, you would probably need quite a girly fn.

I prefer [name_u]Lee[/name_u] to [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] and [name_f]Lea[/name_f] (which I would pronounce like [name_f]Leah[/name_f])
While it is more boy to me I wouldn’t be weirded out by seeing it on a girl

[name_u]Lee[/name_u] is not too masculine … it is very much a unisex name. I know a female [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and she wears it really well.
