Is Leokadia wearable?

My great grandmothers name was [name_f]Leokadia[/name_f]. Is it wearable? My oldest suggested Lakadia. Is that more wearable? Does it still honor GG?

I’ve only ever seen it written as [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f]. I once met an old lady with that name, she was the grandmother of my best friend, who passed away age 102. She had the prettiest blue eyes.

As for the name itself, it’s very clunky, but with [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as such a popular name you could certainly get away with it. [name_f]Lea[/name_f], [name_f]Caddie[/name_f], [name_f]Dia[/name_f] are very cute nicknames. I prefer [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] in the middle spot though.

I prefer the [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] spelling as well, and agree with the pp that it is quite clunky, but with a few good potential nicknames.

Lakadia makes me think of lackadaisical (meaning, lacking enthusiasm and determination; carelessly lazy)

Yes to [name_f]Leokadia[/name_f] (though I prefer [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f]), no to Lakadia. I love [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f], but SO said no. :frowning: I think it’s fabulous, and plenty of nickname options if [name_f]Leokadia[/name_f] is too long. [name_u]Lee[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Lea[/name_f], [name_f]Kadie[/name_f], [name_u]Kay[/name_u], Lady, [name_f]Kia[/name_f]… so many options! Great choice, in my opinion, especially if it’s a family name.

[name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] is lovely and, like [name_u]Red[/name_u] said, the nickname options are plentiful!

It’s an interesting name. What about this spelling?: Leokadja. I prefer Leokadja to [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f].

Lakadia looks misspelled (and a little, uh, thrashy, like LaKadia or something). [name_f]Leokadia[/name_f]/Leokadja is waaaaay better

Leocadie was a great-grandmother of mine, as well. I like it, but it seems just slightly off. Maybe, as everyone has said, it’s the clunkiness. I don’t think I could use it for more than a middle, but it would be a great way to get to [name_f]Lea[/name_f] as a nickname if you wanted that.

I think [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] is wearable, because it contains elements of so many popular names. I don’t like the [name_f]Leokadia[/name_f] spelling as much but I understand if you want to use your grandmother’s spelling. I wouldn’t have connected Lakadia to it and would have thought it was an invented name (La + Kadia).

My first thought was that it was a made up/kre8tive name–I think that’s because of the k. I would spell it [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] and have her go by a nickname ([name_f]Cady[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], etc), or use it as a middle name. You could also honor GG by using part of the name, e.g. [name_f]Leonore[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]

I adore [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] (prefer this spelling), hate Lakadia. I think it’s a great name with awesome nn potentials.

I’m with c@29 and various others; [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f]/[name_f]Leokadia[/name_f] is great and perfectly wearable thanks to nickname potential, while Lakadia looks made-up and silly.

You might also consider the similar [name_f]Acadia[/name_f]? That could indirectly honor your grandmother.

[name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] with this spelling! I don’t like Lakadia.

[name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] is beautiful, and while I appreciate that your grandmother’s name was spelled with the K, I’d use the C form. After all, it’s still the same name, just with a more refined spelling.

Completely. I really like it
