I love [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] regardless, and generally I convince myself to go for the more classic, more common [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] spelling, but [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] does rank, and I’ve always found it more beautiful, more feminine, more reminiscent of the lily-flower connection that I adore so much. Is it completely unrealistic in [name_u]America[/name_u] (or really, any country?), though? I feel like it would automatically be spelled [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], and while I love [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], too, [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] has that edge for me.
Are there any other [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] lovers out there? I’ve really been loving [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] today, but if it’s a terrible idea, I’d like to stop it before the crush goes too far… (And yeah, yeah, I know about the whole [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Elise[/name_f] thing. I’m not even sure I’d let myself use it, but I am really loving it today!)
I cannot see how it would be terrible to go with [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]. I think both are lovely and now seeing them both written out together, I find myself attracted to [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] also. Maybe partially because I love [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], not sure.
Go for it! It’s not strange at all, you’d have spelling issues with either one I think, even if one is more popular. I personally prefer [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] myself but I think [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a lovely name.
With so many different spellings of the same names (ex [name_f]Kayley[/name_f], [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], [name_f]Kailey[/name_f]…) I don’t really see the problem. She may have to spell her name out, but it shouldn’t be that bad. [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] should work. It isn’t like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], I don’t feel [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilian[/name_f] has reached that state of popularity of one spelling over another yet. Personally, I like the look of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] better than [name_f]Lilian[/name_f], but that’s just me. [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] is lovely.
I think [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] is the common spelling in many European countries (the new born [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] of [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] is an example). And if course, it’s the masculine form in [name_f]France[/name_f] ([name_f]Lilian[/name_f] Thuram). Actually if you think of the flower ([name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lilium[/name_f]), this spelling makes more sense etymologically (while [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilly[/name_f] come from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]).
You might have some spelling issues, but I think this is a pretty, and classy version. Go for it!
Ugh, I know, I saw the [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]-is-a-[name_m]French[/name_m]-boys’-name thing. It cut me to the heart! I actually looked at what Nameberry had to say about [name_f]Lilian[/name_f], and it doesn’t list it as a variation of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillian[/name_f], but rather a different name etymologically. Which makes me really happy, because that was my concern with using both [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] together, haha!
I don’t know why I was so worried about it–I figured it’d be a real hassle to deal with all the spelling questions. I assumed that most people would, without a doubt, spell lih-lee-ehn as [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], but now I’m seriously considering [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]! I suppose I’ll have to decide which form it is that I really prefer.
I too much prefer the spelling of [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] with one L and if I have a girl ( we don’t know the sex) I would definitely choose to spell it like that.
[name_f]My[/name_f] friend name her daughter [name_f]Siena[/name_f], choosng one N to be different, so just go with what you like, there is no right or wrong
I think going with [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] is fine. It makes more since if you plan to call her [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] looks better than [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] to me. I think you should go for it!
[name_f]Lilian[/name_f] is lovely. I much prefer it actually… [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] has never done much for me, it’s nice but very uptight, whereas [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] is more carefree, flowery - it reminds me more of [name_f]Lilias[/name_f] too.
I don’t think you’d have much trouble at all. Maybe she’d have to get used to saying ‘‘it’s [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] with one L’’ when people spell her name, but like other posters have mentioned - I would imagine half the population of babies born at the minute will have to do that, though.
