With vintage choices like Nancy and Millie coming back, is Loretta following or is it a “time capsule” name like Mildred, Gertrude, Barbara, and Karen? Loretta was recently in one of my NTB’s and it’s a family name so I’m thinking about adding it to my list. But is it too dated? What vibe does Loretta give you? Is it strong or overly feminine? What are some similar names so I can compare?
Sorry for bombarding you with questions. I am just curious if it’s ready to come back.
I’d also love thoughts on Nancy, which is also a family name.
I love [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] personally! It’s cool and fiery and sweet. I think it’s strong and feminine simultaneously. [name_f]Lore[/name_f], [name_f]Lori[/name_f], and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] are great nicknames, too.
Similar names…
[name_f]Coretta[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorena[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Arlette[/name_f]
[name_f]Marietta[/name_f]
Oh I love [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]. It’s sharp but pretty! Plus you get the nicknames [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Lotta[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], Rett, [name_f]Lori[/name_f] and Lettie!!
I think [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is long overdue for a comeback! It’s lively and sweet and sassy, very 1930s glam to me, which seems to be the next trend to come up (a la [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], Dorothy). I love the idea of Etta/Ettie as a nn.
[name_f]Loretta[/name_f] feels strong, feminine and classy I think she has a cool jazz club vibe if that makes sense and definitely deserves a comeback. She comes with the fabulous nickname [name_f]Etta[/name_f] which is another bonus!
Also in the UK I think she is on the verge of a comeback this reality star [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] used the name for her daughter normally people take inspirations from celebs so you know maybe people will jump on the bandwagon
@tori101 Seeing Loretta on a baby is really helping! Also, you are totally right about people taking inspration from celebs.
I am adding Loretta to my list, but I still want more opinions since I’m still not quite sold. I’d also love thoughts on Nancy, which is also a family name.
I really love Loretta! I’ve been rooting for her comeback as well… it’s one of the few “dated” names I love, and i definitely prefer it to the name Laura for example, which is similar.
Other names it reminds me of is Violetta, Lavinia, Linnea, Lydia, Lorraine, Elaine, Jeanette, Rosmerta etc…
I’m not as much into Nancy, but there’s nothing wrong with it! Names like Nancy are also due for a revival, and if it’s a family name it makes it all that more special
[name_f]Loretta[/name_f] reentered the US Top 1000 last year! The [name_f]Etta[/name_f] sound is really cool right now, and I think [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is adorable for a baby. [name_f]Sassy[/name_f] and retro and strong.
I have a great-Aunt Loretta (whose nickname is Wetta!) and love this name. She’s so sweet and loving, and her name radiates comfort and warmth to me!! Lovely pick!
Yes. 100%. [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is a family name on my husband’s side (along with [name_f]Leona[/name_f] and Carole) and I’d love for it to make a comeback. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if DH doesn’t like it…Loretta is cool!
[name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is cool and offbeat; I think it’s on the upswing! [name_f]My[/name_f] main association is [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].
@Larryisalittledog I’m glad my response was helpful and seeing the name on actual baby helped Definitely add [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] to the list.
I really like [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] as well I think this will become fashionable I have a friend who has two daughters [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] & [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] so to me the name is really usable
@Larryisalittledog honestly I have to say she chose well with her daughters names! She’s also just had a niece called [name_f]Polly[/name_f] so clearly a family of good vintage namers
I think [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] is definitely ready for revival. It’s not really my cup of tea, but I can totally see the appeal. I do however LOVE [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and would love to see it loved on more
