Still searching for the perfect name for my baby girl and recently came across [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (loo-ees-ah) which me and hubby both like. The only thing is we have a baby niece [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and I think it might be too similar, especially as they will be close i age and grow up together. What do you think?
It is close in that the nicknames may be [name_u]Lou[/name_u]/[name_f]Lu[/name_f]/[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]…
But ultimately they are different names and if you feel it’s “the one” then you should use it.
I would say too close for sisters, but not too close for cousins, even if the will grow up together. I’m [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and I have a younger cousin named [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]. It never bothered either of us. I always kind of assumed my uncle picked that name because he loved me so much, he wanted his daughter to be like me LOL! [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is a lovely name, and if it makes you both happy, I say go for it!
In my family we have several people with the exact same and it gets confusing (also with variants of the same name). It’s left this generation with a desire to make the names more distinctive so that you can easily talk about someone and know whom is being refered to. That being said [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] could be usable. They are definitely too close for sisters, but for cousins you would know who is who. For me I rarely see a lot of my cousins, I see them maybe one week a year, (although we’re still close.) If you live next door or close in distance I might rethink it. Still it could work. I wouldn’t use [name_u]Lou[/name_u] as a nickname with a cousin [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Lula[/name_f] as a nickname in this case.

I don’t think they’re too close for cousins. Who knows? They may even like being [name_f]Lu[/name_f] and [name_u]Lou[/name_u]. My cousins [name_f]Lori[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] never minded their names being somewhat similar. I think they actually felt closer because of it.
I don’t think they are too close for cousins. My cousin and I share almost same name to the letter… Actually, only difference is one letter. We have never minded it much - though she lives in another city. The same cousin also shares her name with my sister. Only difference is that my sister has three more letters in the beginning. Like cousin is ‘[name_f]Lotte[/name_f]’, and sis is ‘[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]’… or something like that. ([name_m]Reason[/name_m] I avoided their name is because it’s distinctive - easy to google)
So [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is actually much more different than ours. I love [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], so if you feel it’s the one - go for it.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] isn’t too similar to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as long as you don’t call her [name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], especially if [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is [name_f]Lu[/name_f] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]! But [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are fine. You shouldn’t have any problems with calling her [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] all the time if you want to, my friend [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] doesn’t have any nicknames. But you could use [name_u]Issy[/name_u]/[name_u]Izzy[/name_u] or [name_u]Isa[/name_u] if you feel she needs one.
By the way, [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is a beautiful name! Classic and timeless but rare, feminine, sweet and dainty but not flimsy. It has lots of great historical, literary and other connections.
I think it’s fine. I know cousins [name_f]Erica[/name_f] and [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and also cousins [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] and [name_m]Kaiden[/name_m]. It might be too close for sisters but cousins are fine.
Too close for siblings but definitely not too close for cousins! They are both very sweet names.
For sisters? Yes. For cousins? No.

I agree with PPs… too close for a sibset, but certainly not too close for cousins! She’s stunning! [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is another, similar, option!
