Is Millie a stretch as a Nick name for Matilda?

I like the name [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] a lot but I absolutely hate the [name_u]Nick[/name_u] name [name_u]Mattie[/name_u].

[name_f]Tilly[/name_f] is ok
[name_f]Tilda[/name_f] is ok
[name_u]Mattie[/name_u] I hate

If I had to pick one of the above three I would go with [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], but I was thinking that maybe [name_f]Millie[/name_f] would work but I don’t know if it’s too much of a stretch for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. My boyfriend though [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] would be cute as well.

What are your thoughts? Personally I’ll probably never call her anything besides [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] unless when she is older she insists on going by a [name_u]Nick[/name_u] name.

[name_f]Millie[/name_f] is one of my favorites! If [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] can work for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], why not [name_f]Millie[/name_f]?:smiley:

I think [name_f]Millie[/name_f] would work as a nickname for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. I also despise the nickname [name_u]Mattie[/name_u]! [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], as you said, are okay. I definitely like [name_f]Millie[/name_f] the best.

[name_f]Mimi[/name_f] would be cute too.

Yes, definitely works, and like you it would be my first choice nn for the gorgeous [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], either [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f].

I mean, it wouldn’t be obvious that [name_f]Millie[/name_f] was from [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], but I like it! I hate [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] as well

I knew a [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] who occasionally went by [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a baby.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] remember that once she’s at school, you can’t choose the nn her friends may or may not give her.

As an example, my sister is also a [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and she regularly went by Tild or [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] for 15 years, in year 10 she moved schools and was instantly referred to as [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], only [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]! Family still call her Tild, but it was a little hard to get used to.

I think both [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] work well as a nickname for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. Neither are too far of a stretch [name_f]IMO[/name_f]

You can’t control what other people might call her as a nickname or what she might choose to go by when she’s older, but you can certainly give her a nickname you like. I love [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and dislike [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] as well. [name_f]Millie[/name_f] would be a great nickname.

I like [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], definitely (I’ve also considered [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]). [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is very cute, [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] too. [name_f]Milla[/name_f] would also be fine as a nn for Marilda [name_f]IMO[/name_f]:slight_smile:
