As you might know, one of my top combos is [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] and for the most part, it’s hot pretty good reception. However, I have also had a few users here on Nameberry say it has “repetitive sounds”. Be honest, does it really? And if it does, is that really a problem?
If you don’t know how to pronounce “[name_m]Abbas[/name_m]”, it’s pronounced “?ah-BAHS”
It’s definitely rhyme-y, but whether that’s a problem or not is up to you. Maybe [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Abbot[/name_u] instead? (That is, if the “repetitive” criticism bother you.)
Marhaba! I think if you live in the English-speaking world, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] will rhyme. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with an authentic Arabic pronunciation, it’s pretty close. Both are two syllables and stressed in such a way that the uh-BAHS really emphasizes the rhyming sound.
Are their other Arabic names you’re considering, or is [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] the patronymic?
I lovelovelove [name_m]Abbas[/name_m], especially for you, but to me, yes, it does sound rhymey (and I’m pretty sure I was one of the ones that said so already). I want you to be able to use it, but I’d much rather see you use [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (which, I think [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] is to die for. :)). I don’t remember what your MN for [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] was (Imran?), but I think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Imran and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] would be fantastic. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] Imran is pretty fantastic, too, though…
Yeah, I agree that it’s repetitive. But I really don’t like repetitive names. That’s a bias you might encounter, and you just need to decide if it bothers you enough to change!
I do like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Abbot[/name_u] a lot, and both names by themselves are nice. Sorry I don’t have better advice!
No, my name is Kassem (variant spelling of [name_m]Qasim[/name_m]). There are some other Arabic names I have been considering, but the very few I like with [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] are [name_m]Rahim[/name_m], Ghassan amd MAYBE Mahdi.
It’s [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u], which I am far too content with to consider changing. I agree [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] is very nice, but it doesn’t have the same ring/charm [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u] has for me.
