I’ve recently fallen in love with the name, and have ran it by some people, and I’ve been getting less than favourable reviews.
My aunt dislikes it cause it’s the name of the boy who bullied her son. (They’re 6) Her’s is the only one that I’ve taken under consideration, but not to much because my son won’t be born for at least another 6 years anyways, lol. And she’s fine with calling him a nick name.
But I’m just wondering, if the other people who don’t like it have a good point?
What do you guys think of the name? What would you think when you first heard it?
There is nothing wrong with [name]Nathaniel[/name]- names often get tainted when they remind us of negative things in our lives. That sounds like that’s the only reason why your aunt doesn’t like the name.
I go straight to a sweet little boy I had in class one time. He had lots of stories and wanted to be teachers pet. This boy could not even imagine bullying someone I think it is a nice name, I don’t like it enough to use it for myself but I think it is a nice name
It’s fine and relatively common so I imagine that anyone who really has an issue with it will be for personal associations or because they deem it 'boring. I think it’s fine. I think [name]Nathan[/name] though is much more handsome.
Nothing wrong with [name]Nathaniel[/name] at all. I’ve known several guys named [name]Nathan[/name] or [name]Nathaniel[/name] and all were complete sweeties. I’m with the poster above, I have a hard time even imagining a bully with this name.
I was just thinking about [name]Nathaniel[/name] today, because one came into where I work. I actually really don’t like the name–it creates this harsh, unappealing image to me–but I have nothing but the utmost respect for anyone who chooses to use it. It’s timeless, has literary ties ([name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name]), is Biblical, has great nicknames ([name]Nate[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Niel[/name]/[name]Neal[/name]/[name]Neil[/name]), and it has vintage charm. The [name]Nathaniel[/name] who came into my work today was respectful, kind, well-mannered. He is also at least partially deaf, and I’ve always had a heart for the deaf and blind, so that makes the name appeal to me even more. I think it’s a great choice for someone else–just not me.
