Is Nico an acceptable full name?

We have a long (5 syllable) last name and are looking for shorter first names. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Nico[/name] but don’t love any of the names it is usually short for. Can [name]Nico[/name] stand on it’s own as a presentable first name? I am usually against using nicknames on the birth certificate but am on the fence about this one. I think maybe it could work on it’s own. Hubby is less sure. I would love to hear opinions from all you Berries!

Most definitely. And I like it!

I think it could work and I like how it sounds. Good luck!

Although I like the look and sound of [name]Nico[/name] and feel it could work well on its own, I prefer a longer first name name to use on the birth certificate and have [name]Nico[/name] as the nickname. [name]Nicolai[/name], Nicander/[name]Nicandro[/name], [name]Nicasio[/name], [name]Nichol[/name], [name]Nickleby[/name], [name]Nikita[/name] or even [name]Dominic[/name] would be a more unusual choices than the more common [name]Nicholas[/name]. But if you don’t like any of these names, then by all means, just choose [name]Nico[/name]! Shorter names or nicknames are now more acceptable as first names. You should always go with the name you love! Good luck, [name]Mischa[/name].

FYI- I don’t know if you’re aware that there was a [name]German[/name] female singer named [name]Nico[/name] who sang with the [name]Velvet[/name] Underground in the 60’s.

I love the name! I have known two; my little cousin [name]Nikko[/name] and a school mate with the name [name]Nicco[/name]. It’s a strong handsome name.

My nephew is named [name]Nico[/name] and I love it! He has a three syllable Italian last name. I think it can stand on it’s own. Two thumbs up!

Definitely! I think I’ve met about three [name]Nico[/name]/[name]Nikos[/name]. All in their 20s and all from different parts of the world. I think it’s a cool name

[name]Nico[/name] is a standalone Italian name

Thanks everyone. We found out that we’re having a boy. [name]Nico[/name] will stay on the short list!

[name]Nico[/name] definitely works as a full name.

[name]Niko[/name] is a very popular name for my husbands side of the family…they are Greek. A lot of people use it instead of [name]Nicholas[/name] (which there are also a lot of). Can def use it on its own - I would use it if it wasn’t so popular in his family!

I think [name]Nico[/name] is fine as a full. I do know a [name]Nikolai[/name]/[name]Nico[/name] and a Nicolozi/[name]Nico[/name] (I think he was Georgian by nationality.)

My son is 14 yrs old, my husband always loved the name [name]Nico[/name], from the movie “Above the [name]Law[/name]”. We used a different spelling, we thought [name]Nico[/name] looked to feminine. We went with “[name]Niko[/name] [name]Giovanni[/name]” and our last name is a very long four syllable italian name. So having the short first name is a nice balance. Good luck.

I named my 3rd daughter [name]Nico[/name]. She doesn’t like it, so she says! She does not like when adults hear the name [name]Nico[/name] and think she is a boy. But people remember her name! Plus she is beautiful so that helps too.
