Is Odin usable?

It’s not on my list right now, I’m just curious. A friend linked me to a baby photo contest page the other day and I (of course) had to browse through some of the other entries to see what their names were. And I saw two different baby boys named [name]Odin[/name], and one Odyn. So I’m just wondering.

Personally I think it’d be fine because:

  1. The sound of it “fits in” with the trendy names right now, since it’s really only one syllable off from [name]Aiden[/name] et al and ends with -in
  2. It has a cute nickname, [name]Odie[/name]
  3. The namesake of the Norse god isn’t something most people know a lot about, but even if they do he’s a pretty badass namesake

What’s your opinion? And just for fun, what siblings would you put with [name]Odin[/name]?

I go back and forth on [name]Odin[/name]. I do really love it, but sometimes think it might just be too much. If the surname was something more ‘traditional’ a la [name]Miller[/name] or [name]Morris[/name], I might just consider it, but with Fu, it almost sounds comical. So, its only the middle for me. I’d admire someone who used it up front though.

I like [name]Odin[/name] due to it’s history and namesake. I like the robust O sound with it’s softer ending. I would say it’s more of a hipster choice right now.

I’d use it.

I think it’s perfectly usable because of all the reasons you listed. I know a little [name]Odin[/name], brother to [name]Jasmine[/name].

I’d maybe go with a Norse theme with [name]Odin[/name], though nothing so obvious as [name]Thor[/name]. [name]Odin[/name], Freyr, [name]Eir[/name], [name]Saga[/name]…
Or maybe just mythology in general Odin, Echo, Artemis, Loki…

[name]Love[/name] [name]Odin[/name] w/siblings [name]Homer[/name] and [name]Hero[/name].

I think [name]Odin[/name] is totally usable for all the reasons you outlined. It’s on my list.

not as well known as [name]Thor[/name], but i dont like it as much.

the god [name]Odin[/name] had 200+ names some being:
Yggr, Sigfodr and Alfodr, or the English Woden

as they are they arent very usable but with some manipulation and some extra vowels some of those 200 have to work!
theres a whole wikipedia page dedicated to them:
List of names of Odin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

of its variations on Nameberry i like:

[name]Oddon[/name] & especially [name]Odran[/name] - like a different [name]Aubrey[/name]/[name]Audrey[/name]/[name]Adrian[/name] which have their masculine forms as well

If you pay attention to sports in [name]America[/name] especially NFL, the name “[name]Odin[/name]” has been in the spotlight the past few weeks.

I think [name]Odin[/name] is very usable. For siblings I’d pair it as follows: [name]Odin[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Willa[/name], & [name]Phineas[/name].

I’m not really a fan. I have only know dogs called [name]Odin[/name] or [name]Odie[/name].

I could never name a child this because i would be obnoxious and upload to Facebook a ton of pictures of my kid sleeping and I’d caption all of them with “Odinsleep.” And other such things.

I think it’s a fine name, but be aware that people may assume you chose it based on the recent success of the [name]Thor[/name] movies.
