I love vintage names, and I really like classic names too. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is a name I keep falling back to, even though I don’t want to, because I don’t really know what to classify it is as!
Questions:
What kind of name do you think [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is?
[name_m]How[/name_m] much longer do you think it will be popular for?
Based on my signature, do you have any other name suggestions for me?
Trendy
Mmm… I think it will stay popular for at least another 8 years… then maybe a 100 to 200 favourite… many people in her grade will have the same name, even after it dies down a tiny bit for new babies…

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] was uncommon until about the 1990s, so I wouldn’t call it classic or vintage. To me [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is vintage since it was popular in the early 20th century, but [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] was rarely used back then. I wouldn’t call [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] trendy either since it’s been a popular choice for over twenty years. If I were to give it a label I would call it a modern classic.
I’m not sure where you live but based on the [name_f]England[/name_f] and [name_m]Wales[/name_m] statistics, the name has been in the top 10 since 1999 and in the top 5 for the past eleven years and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. I can see it being a popular choice for the next ten years.
Other suggestions: [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
I always thought of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] as a classic name. A kind of name that wasn’t as popular as [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] but that everyone was familiar with. I quite like it and I have for a while. I actually have a story with the name. When my cousin was pregnant with her first child, we loved to chat about names, and I had suggested [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] to her. It was the number one choice until her daughter’s birth, and at the last minute they named her [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. She agreed with me that it was a classic, familiar name.
My guess is that it will stay in the top ten for a good long while, perhaps making it into the next few years in the top ten as well. I think it may stay in the top 100 for a good long while after that too. I don’t see it stepping back anytime soon.

Tough question… it’s definitely trending right now, and I wouldn’t necessarily call it a vintage name. Kind of a classic because it’s been increasingly common throughout the last few decades, but right now I think it’s trending to the point where I wouldn’t use it.
