Is Olivia usable?

I know it’s the #1 name pretty much everywhere … BUT … we still love it. And, we actually don’t happen to know a single Olivia! Would you consider this a usable name right now or does its popularity rule it out for you completely? Is it a classic name or will it be the new Megan/Jessica/Ashley in 20-30 years?

  • Olivia is still usable and a classic name
  • Olivia isn’t usable anymore due to it’s popularity

Use it if you love it! It’s popular for a reason. I’m a 90s [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and didn’t meet anyone with my name until junior high. I love my name and have never had a problem with its popularity.

I personally wouldn’t use it but I think it’s usable for someone else. It depends on how much popularity really matters to you though - don’t pick the name with the hope that she might not meet any other Olivias because chances are she will. I was a 1994 [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and grew up with quite a few other Emilys in my classes. While names are becoming more varied and the most popular names of today actually aren’t as used as the most popular names in the 90s were, I still can think of quite a few Olivias off the top of my head - both ones I know in real life and some that are celebrities and such. But in the grand scheme of things is that really so bad? And does that outweigh your love for the name? Those are the questions to answer for yourself.

There isn’t a rule like popular names can’t be used. But, are you okay with hearing her name often? It’s just personal preference really

I wouldn’t call it a classic and I do think it will be Megan/Jessica/Ashley at some point, but why would it be unusable if that doesn’t bother you?

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] has been in the top ten for most of the 2000’s so far. At what stage does it count as a classic? I’d say it’s pretty much there! A “fad” name doesn’t seem to hang around for more than 5-10years at its peak in my opinion. I personally know Olivia’s from age 2 through to age 35 so that seems quite a broad range to me.

Strangely, considering how popular it is I’m yet to meet a baby / child [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and I’ve only known one [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] so far in my life! I think it’s a beautiful name and I would definitely use it!

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is absolutely useable if it’s a name you love. I remember the first time I heard it was watching Grease and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_m]Newton[/name_m] [name_u]John[/name_u] played [name_u]Sandy[/name_u] .

I have known a lot of olivia’s varied in age from 35- newborn so I think it’s safe to say if fits many ages and stages

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is popular for a reason ! So if you both love it use it . In my opinion it doesn’t matter what you name your kid at some point in their life they may run into another with that name !
