Is the association between the jewellery brand and the name too strong?
[name_m]Will[/name_m] people say ‘pandora, like the jewellery?’ In the same way they might say ‘[name_f]Athena[/name_f], like the poster shop?’
In my mind [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] is heavily tied to the jewelry company. Although, I have never heard of an [name_f]Athena[/name_f] poster shop. Perhaps [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] is not as popular everywhere? I would be more inclined to use it as a middle name. Maybe you could poll some people where you live?
I have never heard of [name_f]Athena[/name_f] poster shop but imo [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] is too tied to the jewellery shop. Still, would make a gorgeous middle name though.
[name_f]Pandora[/name_f] isn’t too tied to jewelry to my ear but it does instantly make me think of [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]'s box which is a somewhat negative association (as it was a box filled with the ills of the world).
Yeah, the shop is a bit of a downside to Pandora (I actually think more so than the myth, but I’m weird). Just because it’s so well known, and not everyone is entirely complimentary of the shop/jewellery. I guess there’s the radio association too, which may be more prominent (though that’s not so well known where I live) and maybe a bit better. Personally, both kind of bug me, although not so much that it puts me off completely, but then I really, really love Pandora. By the way, I’ve never heard of the Athena poster shop.
My first thought is [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] Radio then the jewelry then the [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] box. So ya if none of those associations bother you I say go for it!

I’ve heard of the jewelry company, but I don’t immediately think of it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if some people do, I don’t see what’s so bad about that. I think jewelry is a positive association, no?
I don’t think so. Anyway it’s not a particularly bad association. I definitely think of [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]'s box before the jewellery, which is a bit more of a negative association. However, I think it is a pretty name so these associations wouldn’t put me off personally
FYI, disney world is also opening a avatar themed land called pandora after the fictional world in avatar. It is definitely a name with a lot of associations which isn’t necessarily a good thing or a bad thing. The name will probably initially make people think of one of these references.
I jump to the internet radio, as in pandora.com. I mean, I don’t think it’s too out-there, but it is definitely something people will have a strong association with no matter what that association is.
