No. Boys should never get girl names that were NOT originally a boy name (do you understand what Im saying?)
For example, I love the names [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] and [name_u]Loren[/name_u] for boys. And I would use [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_u]Madison[/name_u] or [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] in a heartbeat, BUT they were originally a boys name. And most of them were in the top 1000 for boys in the mid 2000s.
Girls should never get boys names either. Like a girl named [name_m]Austin[/name_m], [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_m]Colton[/name_m]… They will be mistaken for a boy their whole life. [name_m]Trust[/name_m] me on that.
I think [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] is a boys name. And it should stay a boys name
Boys name.
[name_m]Both[/name_m]!
It’s symbolic to you, so you should definitely use it on your son. However, I think it’s a perfectly acceptable name for a girl as well.
I feel very strongly that it’s a boys name.
Jeeze Babynameholic, no need to be rude! She was saying for her it’s traditionally a girl name because of the cultural reference she made, not that it was actually a girl name.
Anyways…I’m not a huge fan of unisex names, but [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] I can see going both ways. It would be very handsome on a dude and lovely on a girl!
It doesn’t really feel like a name at all to me, boy or girl.
I have only ever liked it on a boy.
I said both but it’s because I think it is a boys name but the only [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] I know is a girl.
I don’t like it at all for either. But it may be because I live in [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], AZ!
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], without a doubt, is all boy.
I wanst being rude. (;
I gave her [name_f]MY[/name_f] opinion, do you not like [name_f]MY[/name_f] opinion? That sucks, doesnt it?
I looked up that cultural reference because it sounded interesting to me, and with such a great rationale your daughter could pull off any name. And for boys you don’t have any explaining to do I guess. I’m always sort of jealous of [name_f]Asian[/name_f] names in general since they always seem to mean and represent something great or beautiful. [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] to me sounds fairly unisex, so I could see it on a girl. When [name_u]AlliSON[/name_u] can, so can [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u].
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] for a boy. I know it’s unisex, I know it can be a girls name. But in my mind [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] is all boy.
I can definitely see it for both, but I would use it for a boy personally.
The opinion wasn’t rude, it was the way you wrote it. You can write opinions nicely, lol…
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] feels very masculine to me.
I think it is more of boys name but I like it better for girls if that makes sense.
The first thing that comes to my mind when i hear the name is [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], followed by [name_m]Joaquin[/name_m] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], so I associate it with males. This is probably a stupid reason, since the name has other/older meanings and associations, and in this case it is a surname which is shared by their sisters. Anyway, I guess either way works!
Thanks everyone. I feel a little more confident about it, though I am not sure it is “the name” quite yet. At least I know that no one is going to accuse me for naming my son a girls name if we do go with it.
It seems to be a unisex name where I live - I know both boys and girls that go by [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]. More boys than girls though, so that’s probably why it seems more of a boys name to be.
