I’m not currently pregnant, but am TTC. So I’m just looking at names, if we are lucky enough to get pregnant again. With my last daughter, we went to the hospital planning on naming her [name_f]Rainey[/name_f]/[name_f]Raina[/name_f], and we got a lot of comments from friends and family about how [name_u]Rain[/name_u] is a hippy name. So we decided to name her [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]. I never looked at it as a hippy name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is? Also, are there any [name_u]Rain[/name_u]- names besides [name_f]Raina[/name_f], [name_u]Rain[/name_u], and [name_f]Rainey[/name_f]?
Nope! [name_u]Rain[/name_u] is stylish and mystical to me! I love nature names though and since they are so in style right right now, I don’t think “hippy” matters… it should not be a deterent. The book Rainbabies sold me on [name_f]Raina[/name_f] when I was a girl. I much prefer [name_u]Rain[/name_u], [name_f]Raina[/name_f], or [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] but [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] is an option.
[name_u]Rain[/name_u] is a hippie name. [name_f]Raina[/name_f] is not, imo.
how about [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f], it gives you rain but isnt hippy at all
Maybe I’m biased, but I love the name [name_u]Rain[/name_u]. I also like the [name_f]Raine[/name_f] spelling. The [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] variant looks a bit childish to me, but I think both [name_u]Rain[/name_u] and [name_f]Raina[/name_f] could make beautiful names. I don’t think any of them sound all that hippy-ish, especially not with the right middle.
[name_u]Rain[/name_u] is pretty!
I don’t think its hippyish. I adore the name [name_f]Raina[/name_f]/[name_f]Reina[/name_f].I can’t think of any other girls names that lend themselves to the nn [name_u]Rain[/name_u] but maybe [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] could work? Its a bit of a stretch. I love [name_m]Rainier[/name_m] for a boy though.
I love Rain! I would say it’s pretty conservative as far as most ‘hippy’ names go.
Next to a name like Elizabeth or Anna I could see how it might come across to some as being a hippy name, but personally I see it as being relatively tame, especially compared to some other hippy/nature-y names like Primrose, Rhapsody, Jupiter, etc.
I think Raina is even more down-to-earth and usable than Rain, since it doesn’t really register as a nature name for me, at least not in the same way Rain does. They’re both nice names though. Rachel & Rain(a) sound like lovely sisters.
[name_f]Raina[/name_f] certainly isn’t. [name_u]Rain[/name_u] isnt really hippie, but I can see how conservative namers would view it that way.
Its hippie-ish. But i like it! My daughters name is [name_f]Summer[/name_f], and for next baby girl (if we get one) is hopefully gonna be [name_f]Stormie[/name_f] (: so rain is pretty to me! Who cares what anyone else says shes your daughter(:
All nature names are going to get the “hippie” reaction from some people. But aside from the fact that its a nature name, the name looks and sounds nice. I like the simple [name_u]Rain[/name_u] spelling; the other variations seem either dated or kiddish. I think [name_u]Rain[/name_u] is a totally adequate lovely name for a child to grow into
