Is Reuben too sandwich-y?

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] is probably the top of my list at the moment, but DH is unsure because it makes him think of the sandwich! For some reason he doesn’t like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] as an alternative, which is a shame, because I love both. We both like [name_u]Owen[/name_u], but I’m really keen on Wentworth as MN, which obviously doesn’t work with [name_u]Owen[/name_u].

Any thoughts on [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], or other similar favourites? Sibling is [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Clark[/name_m], and we have a very long Greek last name starting with D, so really need names of 1 or 2 syllables and no more than 7-8 letters.

I love [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]! I didn’t even think of the sandwich until I read this post. I think it’s a beautiful, beautiful underused name. Also, [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] sound marvelous together!

Other options:
[name_m]Judah[/name_m]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_u]Hunter[/name_u]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Eli[/name_m]

I love the name [name_m]Rueben[/name_m] and I don’t think you have to worry about the sandwich. Other suggestions are [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] (I don’t know why I keep thinking of -ah names for you, it just seems to work), and [name_u]Casey[/name_u].

I think [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] are perfection! The sandwich is not an automatic connection for me at all. But if you are looking for an alternative I would suggest:

[name_m]Roland[/name_m]
[name_u]Corbin[/name_u]
[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_u]Beau[/name_u]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Brooks[/name_m]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] is on the short list for our little one due in [name_f]September[/name_f]. This five-letter variation is Spanish as far as I know, and I stuck with it over the more traditional [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] because it’s phonetic and less likely to bring the sandwich to mind. I worked in a bar that sometimes offers up Reubens as lunch specials, and it is remarkable how many of my co-workers misspelled [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] as [name_m]Rueben[/name_m]. It was a little pet peeve then and I didn’t want to deal with it if it does end up being our son’s name - though we may well spend some time correcting people who figure it’s [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] all the same!

It’s a great name. I say go for it - it sounds great with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], too.

Thanks for this info, I had been wondering about the spelling with our difficult last name. I love that you have sold Reubens but still have it on your list, I’m going to tell my husband this!

Thanks for all the suggestions, I hope that we do end up going with it, but there are some other good ones here that we can talk about it. As you’ve all said, I think it just goes perfectly with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]! Much better than [name_u]Owen[/name_u], which to me doesn’t quite sit right with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] is a wonderful classic. I like the sandwich but I only think of that connection when I see it on a lunch menu!

I know a little [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], who’s about 6 now. He is actually the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen. Not kidding. I think it works fine, and I have never thought of the sandwhich.

I am not aware of the sandwich so to me the name [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] is just a lovely name that goes beautifully with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], and also lends itself to some cute nns such as [name_u]Rue[/name_u], Reubs, [name_m]Ben[/name_m] & [name_m]Benny[/name_m]

I prefer the [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] spelling, and then I love the name! But [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] for sure works, too, and goes very well with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].

I am loving Wentworth (ahem, [name_m]Captain[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] in Persuasion) and I can’t believe I never thought of it before!

It makes me think of the sandwich as well, I don’t think I could go with it, but it’s fine for a name

The sandwich never comes to mind for me unless someone brings it up and even then I wouldn’t call it a terrible association, go for it if you really love it, it’s a great name!

But anyway if you love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] then maybe [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] could be perfect. [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] sound great together!

I wouldn’t have thought of the sandwich at all! I think [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] are great together.

I always think of the sandwich when I hear this name. Sorry.

I do think of the sandwich, but I don’t think it’s too sandwichy, to use your hilarious phrase. I think [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Rueben[/name_m] make a really nice pair! Also, young kids aren’t going to know about the sandwich and will just associate the name with their buddy.
