I have found this name and fell head over heals in love with it! However, was totally unaware of the prison association in [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_u]York[/name_u]. For context I live in the UK.
Would it be totally unacceptable?
I think it’s usable but the prison is reasonably well known here in the UK as well, I would imagine.
Maybe [name_u]Ryder[/name_u], [name_m]Iker[/name_m] or Reidar as alternatives?
Ryker is in the top 200 most popular names in America, so if they can use it I think you could too! Plus, the name of the prison is spelt differently, Riker instead of Ryker.
That said I do like the suggestion of Ryder. Maybe Rylan, Rylie, River, Rory?
I actually live near [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_u]York[/name_u] and even though I am aware of [name_m]Riker[/name_m] Prison I never think of it when I hear the name [name_u]Ryker[/name_u].
i’ve never heard of the prison, so i think it’s fine (and so cute!)
I’m in the UK and have never heard of the prison
i live in the US and know lots of little ryker’s! i think it’s adorable.
I’m from the UK, and turns out I have heard of the prison (saw it in a cartoon iirc), but I thought it was a [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek reference up until now, sooo I think it’s fine . I obvously don’t think of the prison, and I’m not sure how many would here tbh. [name_m]Even[/name_m] then it’s not too strong imo.
I think it is useable! I grew up in the US and had a close friend named [name_u]Ryker[/name_u]. I never was bothered by the association because he was such a nice guy, and never even thought about it after the first time I met him.
Most of the time I think the prison is referred to as “Rikers” since it’s on Rikers [name_u]Island[/name_u]. So [name_u]Ryker[/name_u] without the S and spelled differently definitely seems less connected for me. I live in the US for reference.
I never thought of the prison when I hear [name_u]Ryker[/name_u], I only think of [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek
I’m Australian, but it still makes me think of the prison. It would be a no for me, sorry.
