Is Seraphina to scary of a name (meaning wise)?

I really want [name]Christian[/name] mommies’ opinions here. I like this name, but is the meaning to… Scary? Intense? For a little girl to carry? Sure it’s an angel, but I’ve heard them described as fiery, serpent like…

Honest thoughts?

I’m expecting my last babe and 2nd DD. first DD is [name]Annabel[/name]. DH and I love [name]Fiona[/name] but certain responses bother me (that it’s ‘ugly’ or Shrek comments). We are deciding now between [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] (although the intrinsic rhyme in this name irks me sometimes…), [name]Maeve[/name] (but feels non-girly next to [name]Annabel[/name]'s name). Naming is very important to me… So this has been hard.

Im a [name]Christian[/name], and I almost chose [name]Seraphina[/name] for my 2nd dds mn, specifically For the meaning. The Seraphims are very sacred angels. Yes, theyre fiery, but so is Gods power. I havent heard them described as serpents. The Bible says they, have 6 wings (if I remember right) and serpents dont even have legs. So, I wouldnt worry about that. Besides, [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Seraphina[/name] are lovely together. Go for it, dont worry.

Thanks for your response:). It makes sense. I wonder if other Christians would perceive it that way?

What middle would you pair with it?

[name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]

I’m not a mommy yet, but I’m a Christian. I agree with @wrenmaple, I haven’t seen the “serpent” meaning anywhere in the name! Out of the two definitions I saw, one was “fiery; ardent” (nameberry), and the other was just describing it was the name form of the seraphim of the angels in the Bible. Nothing to do with serpent at all, which was really the part that was scaring me! ha.

And I actually love the association to the fiery seraphim. They’re the highest ranking angels in all of heaven, and instead of a freaky image of a warrior of God decked out in fire, I rather see a warrior of God filled with God’s love, zealous to save every soul, to go about God’s work. That’s an association that really speaks to me, I don’t know. haha. I would love for my children to be zealous about doing God’s will in their own lives, so the idea that my daughter would be named after the angels who are just the same way speaks to me a lot.

I really like Annabel and Seraphina together a lot, actually! I think Annabel and Violet or Annabel and Phoebe are great, too.

Good luck!

ETA: Even now, reading back on my comment, I don’t feel like I still said it right! It’s so much more exciting than what I know how to explain, lol, I really love the association to the angels. They’re so powerful and glorious, but they use all of that to further God’s kingdom, to help humanity realize how great is God’s gift for us, how much we need it… It’s exciting. haha.

I’m not [name]Christian[/name] but I’m religious. I don’t find it any scarier than any of the angel names ([name]Angelique[/name], [name]Angelina[/name], or specific angels like [name]Raphaela[/name] or [name]Gabriella[/name]…) and I like the fiery meaning. Angels aren’t really just sparkly fairies playing musical instruments in the Bible. The lion-faced or giant aspects as [name]Ezekiel[/name] describes could be freaky I guess but I think some lion names ([name]Arielle[/name], or less religious ones like [name]Leontine[/name]) can be beautiful and feminine, too, in their power. I wouldn’t have [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Arielle[/name] though.

[name]Don[/name]'t know where the serpent thing came from. [name]Seraphim[/name] aren’t described that way.

I like [name]Seraphine[/name] slightly more than [name]Seraphina[/name] but that’s purely aesthetics of it. I think [name]Raziela[/name] and [name]Raphaela[/name] are two of the prettiest specific-angel names for girls.

I’m a [name]Christian[/name] and I have never perceived [name]Seraphina[/name] as scary. I have read about the seraphim being fiery serpents, so fiery that whoever looks upon them would instantly be incinerated. However, I have also heard of them having four heads and six wings with one pair of wings just for covering up their feet in the presence of God, so if they have feet I don’t guess they could be serpents. The serpent thing comes from the serphim being referenced when snakes were encountered in the book of Deuteronomy (at least this website says so). I don’t find the name [name]Seraphina[/name] scary at all. [name]Nathanael[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name] were both serphim, and those names aren’t scary. I know there is a degree of separation from the seraphim in peoples minds with Nathanael, Gabriel or even Gabriella but if people are going to tie Seraphina to Christianity most people are just going think about the nice angles we see sitting on clouds. I agree with ashthedreamer that Seraphina has a nice meaning and of your list a like Seraphina Pearl.

Seraphs are a bit creepy looking yet I always considered them beautiful. All of the angels are beautiful (including [name]Lucifer[/name]). I guess I have an ethereal image of them because the [name]Seraphim[/name] are the heavenly choir. They fly around singing

I’ve always preferred [name]Seraphine[/name], [name]Seraphina[/name] is too frou frou for me

I don’t find it freaky at all. I like it. Especially [name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].

I was going to go with [name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], but I also like [name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
