Is [name]Shiloh[/name] usable? Or too celeb focused because of [name]Brad[/name] and [name]Angelina[/name]'s daughter?
It was never my style. My first association is to [name]Brad[/name] and [name]Angelina[/name], but I don’t think it makes it completely unusable as it is now a few years later. However, you may get some responses of “like [name]Brad[/name] [name]Pitt[/name] and [name]Angelina[/name] [name]Jolie[/name]?” I don’t think that would be an issue for the child with schoolmates because of the age. So you have to decide if that would bother you or not.
my first thought is the dog by the same name. Then [name]Brad[/name] and [name]Angelina[/name]'s [name]Shiloh[/name]. Either way, it deserves the contempt I reserved for names like [name]Neveah[/name], Muffy and [name]Shaelyn[/name].
What is the dog reference?
It’s a well known dog in a book…
But, I love the name =)
I like the name but I am unsure how to pronounce it ? Shee-Low ? I don’t know… But if you wanted it to work with your other child’s name I would something with the same style. P.S your daughters’ name is beautiful !
Really? Same contempt as a made up name like [name]Nevaeh[/name]? Harsh!
Thanks! We [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] (we pronounce it “[name]Lou[/name]-sha”) and are having a hard time thinking of girls names that stand up to its uniqueness and strength.
It’s pronounced “shy-low”.
Have you tried [name]Lux[/name] or [name]Luna[/name] both Latin I think but don’t take my word for it haha ! Good luck
I have adored [name]Shiloh[/name] as a girl’s name for years, but [name]Angelina[/name]'s use took it off my list. I recently put it back on my list because others on these boards seemed to think the celebrity connection with the name had faded, but my husband dislikes it so I will never use it.
The book reference is to a children’s novel from the '90s called [name]Shiloh[/name] that won a [name]Newbery[/name] Medal and several other awards. It is not a bad association to have, in my opinion, and the book is taught in many elementary schools. [name]Shiloh[/name], in the book, is a male beagle who is abused and ultimately rescued by a young boy. The book is what drew my attention to the name [name]Shiloh[/name] as a child, and I immediately liked it for a little girl.
[name]Shiloh[/name] is also a place-name in the Bible, and the site of a Civil War battle known as the Battle of [name]Shiloh[/name], though I know nothing about that particular battle.
If the Brangelina link is too much for you, you may like a similar name that is pretty high on my list at the moment (and loved by my husband): [name]Shyla[/name]. It is a variant of [name]Sheila[/name], and got mostly positive responses on these boards when I started a thread about it several months ago. I have also seen it spelled Shila, but I believe [name]Shyla[/name] is the more traditional spelling.
I love [name]Shiloh[/name]!
Have you ever read the novel?
I apsolutlylove love [name]Shiloh[/name]!!! It’s on my favorites list! If you do want to steer clear if the [name]Brad[/name]-[name]Angelina[/name] reminder you could always consider the relation from the movie [name]Shiloh[/name] (in which a puppies name is [name]Shiloh[/name]) not sure if that’s any better, but that’s where I first heard the name and fell invoke with it!!!
I really like [name]Shiloh[/name], but it seems to be lacking something that I can’t quite put my finger on. Also, it has a lot of repetitive sounds when paired with [name]Lucia[/name]! But maybe you like that Have you thought of [name]Shia[/name]?
I love the name [name]Shiloh[/name] - traditionally it’s a Hebrew boy’s name, but I think could be used for a girl. Brangelina’s kids names may be well-known now, but by the time your baby is in elementary school, no one will remember or care. Though, I have to admit, I scratched it off my list because of the [name]Pitt[/name]-Jolies. Here’s a link to more info:

And here’s a quote from the above webpage:
[name]Rashi[/name] and Onkelos interpret [name]Judah[/name]'s prophesied “arrival at [name]Shiloh[/name]” ([name]Genesis[/name] 49:10) as predicting the arrival of the [name]Messiah[/name], associating the name שילה with the word שֶ”לּו (sheh-LOH), meaning his - that is, the Jewish leadership belongs to him - to [name]Judah[/name]. Thus שילה is linked with a great time of peace and goodness to come. The letters of שילה also evoke the words שִ”לְיָה (sheel-YAH) meaning placenta (birth of a new era, birth of a great leader), and שַ”לְוָה (shahl-VAH), meaning serenity.
