[name]Johanna[/name] is [name]Jo[/name]-hah-nuh
[name]Joanna[/name] is [name]Jo[/name]-anne-uh
so yes the h is pn
wss. I know a [name]Johanna[/name] and she is super sweet! Beautiful name.
I said yes, my instinct is to prn it with this spelling. But I would also understand if someone told me the h wasn’t prnd in their name and it was spelled that way. I wouldn’t think it was weird or anything.
Sometimes it is and sometimes it is — I cite [name]Sweeney[/name] [name]Todd[/name]'s very lovely song, “[name]Johanna[/name]” where the name is jo-[name]ANN[/name]-ah. It think in older times in [name]England[/name] it was pronounced with the H silenced. However, if you are thinking of using it in modern day US, I think most people will say it with the H.
I have 2 friends named Johanna, and it’s my middle name! I pronounce it jo-hann-uh (like Hannah with a Jo at the front…) One of my friends pronounces it this way too, but the other pronounces it jo-hahn-uh (like the difference between Anna and Ana…) But either way you pronounce the h, jo-ann-uh would be spelled Joanna…
The only person I know with this name is a male who pronounces it jo-hah-nah. I was surprised to learn this was a girl’s name actually!
Like [name]Hannah[/name] with a [name]Jo[/name] in front. No silent H, that means.
I’ve never known the H to not be pronounced with that spelling.
I think it’s Scandinavian originally,like [name]Johan[/name],Johannsen etc
I think the oringinal pronounciation of the name was [name]Yo[/name]-hanna. I say that because in Europe [name]Scarlett[/name] Johannsen’s surname is pronounced [name]Yo[/name]-hannsen not [name]Jo[/name]-hannsen. But if there are any Scandinavian berries here, correct me if I’m wrong!
I love [name]Johanna[/name]! [name]One[/name] of my favorites. And yes, I do pronounce the h.
I’m scandinavian and I (and my friends named [name]Johanna[/name]) say [name]Yo[/name]-hanna, so hayley88, you’re completely right! If I met a person from [name]America[/name] or [name]England[/name] named [name]Johanna[/name], I would assume that they pronounced it [name]Jo[/name]-hannah though, so I would say that. I think most people from english speaking countries would pronounce it [name]Jo[/name]-hannah.
I second that, except I’m [name]German[/name], not Scandinavian, pronunciation is the same.
I’m Canadian but I would automatically say [name]Johanna[/name] as [name]Yo[/name]-hanna. Like [name]Johann[/name], with an A at the end. I would pronounce [name]Joanna[/name] as [name]Jo[/name]-anna, of course.
I always pronounced it yo-hanna and I live in the states. It is a really pretty name, and not too common but still heard of.
I think [name]Jo[/name]-hah-nuh pronunciation is lovely!
