My husband and I are having trouble thinking of names that are similar to [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Katarina[/name_f]. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is his first choice, [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] is mine. I don’t like [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] with an ‘e’ ([name_f]Katerina[/name_f]). We’re trying to ‘compromise’ haha.
The only name we can come up with is [name_f]Katie[/name_f] but neither of [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it. I kind of like [name_f]Kitty[/name_f]. Suggestions? Or should get just go back to square one? I’ve almost convinced him on [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] (he’s an English Lit professor and so he likes that it relates back to [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] from [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables and so do I). But [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] are still are favourites (separately).
Keep in mind we have three other kids. [name_f]Melody[/name_f], [name_u]Arden[/name_u] and [name_u]Max/name_u. She will have the middle name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] after my mother. Help! Haha.
What about [name_f]Katrin[/name_f]/[name_f]Katrine[/name_f] or [name_f]Katja[/name_f]? I love [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
I second the suggestion of [name_f]Katja[/name_f]/[name_f]Katia[/name_f].
What about:
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ekaterina[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Catalina[/name_f]
There’s always [name_f]Katarine[/name_f] or [name_f]Katharine[/name_f]. ([name_f]Kat[/name_f]-uh-reen/ Kath-uh-rin.)
I always have loved Katrion/ [name_f]Katriona[/name_f] ([name_f]Kat[/name_f]-ree-ohn/[name_f]Kat[/name_f]-ree-ah-nuh), because it’s distinctive without being odd. Plus the spelling and pronunciation are obvious.
Or there’s [name_f]Katya[/name_f] or [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f].
I think that there is plenty of room to compromise here, and I wouldn’t start over if I were you. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] are the same root name, and it seems silly to throw it out when the only thing you can’t agree on is the particular form.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables!! [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is such a gorgeous name and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] is really pretty. But back to your predicament, I like [name_f]Katharina[/name_f] (pronounced kath-rina, kath-a-rina or kat-er-ina). [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] is also pretty
[name_f]Katya[/name_f]
Katrielle
[name_f]Kateri[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaisa[/name_f]
I like the Dutch name [name_f]Catharina[/name_f], prn like [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] but looks softer, more like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. The standard Dutch nn is [name_u]Cato[/name_u] “[name_f]KAT[/name_f]-oh”, which I think is really spunky and cool.
Oh, [name_f]Katia[/name_f] is a good idea! [name_f]Katrina[/name_f], [name_f]Karina[/name_f], or [name_f]Keira[/name_f] would also be possibilities. I might also suggest [name_f]Katherina[/name_f] - it’s a roundabout sort of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] variation, but it still retains the beauty of both [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Katarina[/name_f], in my opinion. I feel [name_f]Katherina[/name_f] could be a great compromise because you could still call her [name_f]Kat[/name_f] or [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] , while your husband gets the -ina ending he likes.
If I’m being honest, I think it would be counterproductive to downgrade to [name_f]Katie[/name_f] or another K name seeing as you and your husband are SO CLOSE in your top names. In the end, I think one of you may just have to give just a little to get the perfect name. Best of luck in the negotiations!
