We now have a shortlist of five or so for this baby girl (due in less than 8 weeks — eek!) One of our final names is the lovely [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
I’ve never really found the perfect combo for [name_f]Flora[/name_f], but I think it works nicely with my all-time favourite GP: [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] (en-[name_u]DELL[/name_u]-ee-un). I’d [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to use [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] if I can!
So, [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Endellion[/name_f]… WDYT? I’m not going to mention the biggest problem I can see with this one; let’s see how long before someone brings it up!
This is quite lovely. The only slightly negative that I can see is the vowel ending and beginning that may run a little together. But this is not enough to stop me loving 2 such great names and loving them together. The repeated ‘l’ sounds make the total quite lyrical.
I’m guessing the uncertainty comes from the similarity to [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]’s daughter’s name? If so, I don’t think it’s a big issue, since I think most people will have forgotten by now and wouldn’t make the connection, especially non namenerds. Other than that I don’t see any other associations, and it’s a nice name.
My first thought was that it’s a beautiful combo, visually and feel wise.
I then clicked on [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] and read it’s description to see if I could figure out what the problem was but I think it’s usable. Very few people would make the connection to [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]'s daughter, especially since her name is [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and it’s a second middle name. I didn’t even know any of that until today.
I wouldn’t have made the connection. I am American, though. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] is wonderfully lovely! I like the spark [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] adds to classic [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
I think it’s lovely and definitely usable, I am American as well so that connection was lost on me. [name_m]Even[/name_m] so I don’t think that would be on most peoples minds, most don’t bother remembering peoples middles except for us namers lol.
I think it’s a lovely combination and very usable. I was aware that [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] has a daughter with the middle name [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] (I remember the press coverage at the time about the unusual name) but I didn’t remember her first name
I think its a really nice combo. My only hesitation is that [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] when read and said can look/sound a lot like dandelion. So the name gives off a heavy floral vibe, but that isn’t a bad thing in my book.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] is a stunning combination! Quite floral but not so much that it’d be tacky or too much. I’m not familiar with British politics but like others said I doubt people would make the connection, and even if they did I don’t think it’s that big a deal.
I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] is sweet. I think together, the two vowels make them not the PERFECT match, but it’s also not a serious problem. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of people have first and middle names that don’t flow exactly perfect. Especially if you pause slightly after the first name- “[name_f]Flora[/name_f]” “[name_f]Endellion[/name_f]” rather than “Florendellion”- as you would in most formal circumstances like graduation, I don’t think hear it as a problem.
Thank you all, I’m glad to hear I seem to be overthinking this. We come from quite “lefty” families, hence the worry, but you’re probably right that no one but namenerds will remember the full name 10+ years on.
I think I’ve found my [name_f]Flora[/name_f] combo, then!
No one in her generation will know and if any of your family picks up on it, possible but not hugely likely, it’s not more than a “did you know that the name is like X?” “Yeah, it is a bit, isn’t it?” conversation. If you get a big teased, I think that’s OK and worth it (and it’s a pretty lame thing to tease someone about!). Wouldn’t be something that keeps going over the years.
So pleased that [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is still in the running for you. I do like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Endellion[/name_f], and I’d love for you to get a chance to use [name_f]Endellion[/name_f]. It is such a rare beauty. The only thing keeping me from feeling like it’s THE NAME for you is that [name_f]Flora[/name_f] paired with [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] does feel a little flowery and soft. [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] both have some spunk and spike that [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] lacks.
I love the combo [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Endellion[/name_f]! It’s absolutely usable in my eyes and so beautiful. I’m pleased to see it’s your choice should you have a little [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. I can’t wait to see what you choose!
@quirkflower It’s interesting that you see [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] as soft and flowery; to me, it’s bold and fiery, which is why I love it so much! The softness and “girliness” of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] beside my other daughter’s name does give me pause, however… I think the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess connection helps though.
