I know there are a lot of animal names being used but is this just a step too far? [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Puma[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. All our kids go by their middle name(s) so she’d be known day to day as [name_f]Puma[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are my grandparents names.
I actually think this is kind of funky. I agree it does sound a bit different if that is going to be her used name… but then people are called [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], etc. So why not! Use it if you love it!
It is a bit different but it sounds very ‘namey’ if that makes sense, so I think it could work. The thing that would put me off is the association with a brand, but that might not be an issue for you at all
It’s fine as a middle, as an every day name the ‘poo’ sound would put me off as it’s the first thing I heard
Ok yes see what u mean but here in uk we say “pew-ma” not “poo-ma”
It’s pronounced “pew-ma”, so I don’t think this would be an issue. I have never head anyone say “poo-ma”.
[name_u]Zooey[/name_u] Deschanel’s daughter is [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] Otter. And that’s a pretty obscure animal name that works. I don’t think it’s too strange. I think it’s usable. If you love it or if it has meaning definitely don’t hesitate to use it.
I think it’s usable, but definitely different! You’d have to be prepared for a few unwarranted comments or raised eyebrows here in the UK, I think.
In a similar vein, I actually really like Panda, especially as a nickname for [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]. So why not [name_f]Puma[/name_f]?!
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you in den US say “smells like a puma” or "it smells like a puma cage in here? In Germany we do so that would be an unfortunate name here. But maybe it’s not internationally said that way
In the US “pew” is said when something smells really bad. So “poo” ma or “pew” ma–both have some bad connotations. Sorry to say this, but I think [name_f]Puma[/name_f] just will open her up to a lot of teasing.
Yeah we’re not in the US. Yes it will get a few odd looks/comments here in [name_f]England[/name_f] but all my kids havr more unusal names and nobody did, or even now, bats an eyelid at their names.
When I saw puma, I immediately thought of [name_m]Cougar[/name_m]. I realize you are not in the US, but here a “cougar” refers to older women dating substantially younger. [name_f]Puma[/name_f] is another word cougar. I can’t say it’s not unusable, but that definitely makes the name less appealing for me, even though it sounds pretty cool.
I really like it as a middle name, but I just can’t see it as a name she’d go by day-to-day. But since you’re using it as a middle name/basically a nickname, maybe?? But at the same time I think it has too many negative connotations? I’m very torn. I do get why you like it, though!
I immediately thought of the sports brand. I can see the appeal though, like other animal names. As a middle it would be fine but since you said she’d be using everyday I’m not so sure. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is so pretty, it’s a shame to hide her away!
I find it quite cool! I first associate it with the brand and then with the animal. I say go for it!
I actually kinda like it, it’s cool. I don’t know how I feel about it being used as her day to day name, though. It reminds me of “[name_f]Roxy[/name_f] like a puma!” if you know what I am quoting lol… But not a bad thing, that’s just all I think of.
My first association with the name [name_f]Puma[/name_f] is actually the athletic brand. I’d lump the name into the same category of names as [name_f]Chanel[/name_f], [name_u]Bentley[/name_u], [name_f]Tesla[/name_f] etc. Not necessarily a bad thing, but maybe a challenging name to own.
I think it works as a middle, but sound of it (pew-ma) is off-putting to me. Though they are beautiful animals! I think it just depends on what sounds your ear likes, and I don’t think it’s too weird to be usable. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Puma[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] has a nice flow to it.
It’s a cool animal, but the sound both in the UK and the States is unpleasant to me. It could be fine where you live, but were she to travel abroad it would be startling, not really in a good way. But you mentioned you like usual names and it would certainly stand out.
