[name]Irina[/name]/[name]Irena[/name]. What do you think? Old and fuddy-duddy, or pretty and fresh? Which spelling do you prefer?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
I think [name]Irina[/name] (spelled this way) is cute and fresh-sounding. I think [name]Irene[/name] is just as pretty though. There was a kids movie called āThe [name]Princess[/name] and the Goblinā that had a [name]Princess[/name] [name]Irene[/name]āand she was called [name]Irene[/name]-ee, which I think is cute.
[name]Glad[/name] to hear at least one other person thinks [name]Irina[/name] is cute! I also like your suggestion of [name]Irene[/name]. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
[name]Just[/name] a warning, this story might be a little strange.
A few weeks ago my parents and I had to go to a government building to get my passport expidited. The lady who helped us was Russian and named [name]Iryna[/name].
As soon as we finished and got in the elevator, I said in a Russian accent, āHello, my name is [name]Iryna[/name].ā
Over the past couple of weeks Iāve gotten really good at my Russian accent and Iāll unconciously start talking in a Russian accent (I even did this accidentally on my last day of my finals).
So now, whenever I break into my Russian accent, my family calls me [name]Iryna[/name].
My final verdict is this:
I donāt like the name. I think of my Russian alter ego. Haha
[name]How[/name] are you pronouncing it? Or how do you want it pronounced?
I know a girl named [name]Irena[/name] (eye-[name]REN[/name]-uh)ā¦ [name]Irina[/name]- I would pronounce eye-[name]REE[/name]-nuhā¦
I like [name]Irena[/name] much better!
[name]Irina[/name] (I prefer this spelling) sounds classy and sophisticated to me, not old at all. Iām pronouncing it ee-[name]REE[/name]-na, which I think sounds very pretty and a little exotic (Russian). I donāt like eye-[name]REE[/name]-na as much. I am not a fan of [name]Irene[/name], which I do think sounds dated along with many other -een names. But [name]Irina[/name] is very nice!
I like [name]Irina[/name] and [name]Irene[/name]. I have known one [name]Irina[/name], a Ukrainian, who was brilliant and beautiful, so I have great associations with the name. I also knew an [name]Irene[/name] when I was in college, and she was a lot of fun and a great friend. [name]Both[/name] names make me picture a smart young woman whoās friendly and fun to be around.

I like the [name]Irena[/name] spelling and think it is a pretty and cute name that will grow well and become a sophisticated womanās name. You might also like the name [name]Iris[/name].
Thanks for sharing everyone! To answer the queston of how Iām pronouncing [name]Irina[/name]/[name]Irena[/name] - Iāve been saying eye-[name]REE[/name]-na for both spellings. Not sure this is correct though??? My hubby prefers the spelling [name]Irena[/name], and I prefer [name]Irina[/name]. [name]Just[/name] wondering what most people think of this nameā¦
[name]Irene[/name] to me is way too old, and [name]Irina[/name] seems Russian to me LOL! Probably because all the Russian girls at my high school seemed to be named [name]Irina[/name]!
[name]Irina[/name] is beautiful imo. I dont think it sounds too old. It does sound very European to me.
Cute!!
[name]Irina[/name] is on my short list as well as [name]Irene[/name] was my grandmotherās name. Iām having a problem getting past the old fashioned sound of the name as well. As well, I think āarenaā like a stadium/arena when when I see and hear the name. This still hasnāt totally deterred me from using the name as I think itās pretty. Iām just not totally sold that the name is fresh or young sounding.
I like it/both. I believe [name]Irina[/name] is supposed to be prn. ee-[name]REE[/name]-nuh, but you shouldnāt have difficulty with people saying it like [name]Irena[/name]. Personally I prefer the latter spelling as it is more ācorrectā and conventional. Thereās a good chance your daughter would even one day have a pencil with her name on it! Plus, I often just think of fairies when I see [name]Irina[/name]!
I love [name]Irena[/name]/[name]Irina[/name]. Its pretty and refreshing. AGes wonderfully:) I donāt think its old sounding at all and actually I prefer just [name]Irene[/name] its on my list. I love nn Rinie/[name]Renie[/name] (Reen-ee). I think [name]Irena[/name] is best but each way works.
I think it is SO CUTE.It reminds me of [name]Iris[/name],only undiscovered!
I think [name]Irina[/name] is a lovely name!! Iām not fond of [name]Irene[/name] though. (I know weirdā¦)
Iām pleasantly surprised to hear so many positive comments about [name]Irena[/name]! After hearing how many of you like this name, and donāt think itās too old sounnding, I think I would seriously consider it for a future daughter. Our other top picks at the moment are [name]Elena[/name], [name]Cecily[/name] and [name]Coralie[/name]. Of those 3, and [name]Irena[/name], which one do you like best?
Thanks so much to each one of you who took the time to share your thoughts. It has been so fun to hear all the comments!
Iām suprised to find a post about [name]Irena[/name]/[name]Irina[/name]!
Iām currently pregnant with twins (genders to be determined in 3 weeks!). My favorite girls name right now is [name]Irena[/name]. I like it spelled that way best I think. Iāve been pronouncing it like the name [name]Irene[/name], but with an A at the end. Am I wrong?! lol Is it silly to not know if Iām pronouncing my fav name right or wrong?!
[name]Irina[/name] is more Russian and that should be pronounced more with a soft I sound like er-rina (I think of [name]Sydney[/name]'s mom on Alias)
