Is This Weird? Also, Opinions on Jaqueline, Jenson, and Jory?

I don’t think it’s weird at all (nor would I find [name_f]Bonita[/name_f] weird!) - my grandmother was named [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], which means beautiful, and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is quite popular too.

I adore [name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f] (or [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]), I just wish S/O was on board, lol. [name_m]Jenson[/name_m] I have a terrible personal association with, so I can’t get behind it, I’m afraid  [name_u]Jory[/name_u] is sweet though!

Nickname ideas;

Jolie - [name_u]Jojo[/name_u]
[name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f] - [name_u]Jackie[/name_u], [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_m]Jenson[/name_m] - [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]/Sonny, [name_f]Jenna[/name_f]

Jenson and [name_u]Jory[/name_u] are for a boy. Thanks for the opinion; I’ve never seen Game of Thrones so I wouldn’t’ve made that connection.

I think [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] is a pretty name and I wouldn’t register it as weird in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country, it just reminds me of [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f].

I like Jacquiline though it feels a bit dated. [name_m]Jenson[/name_m] reminds me of that actor from Supernatural. I haven’t heard [name_u]Jory[/name_u] before but I don’t hate it, it would probably get misheard as [name_f]Tory[/name_f]/Cory/Rory etc at times but it’s not a bad name.

I think [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] would often be pronounced “Johl-ee” in places where [name_u]French[/name_u] isn’t commonly spoken. There’s also the spelling [name_f]Joely[/name_f], like actresses [name_f]Joely[/name_f] [name_m]Richardson[/name_m] and [name_f]Joely[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m].

I do pronounce [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] ‘Johl-ee’ and I don’t live in a place where [name_u]French[/name_u] is spoken, but I’m worried about people in my generation (who will grow up to be the teachers of next generation) making the [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] connection and pronouncing [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] ‘[name_m]Joe[/name_m]-lee’ instead of my chosen ‘Johl-ee’ or ‘Zzhohl-ee’. As for the alt. spelling, thank you for that. It is a very pretty spelling (in my opinion) and it has a phonetic pronunciation (though not the one I prefer to use).

Jolie : i’m not sure whether I understand the question?

Jaqueline: Do you mean Jacqueline? The name is the feminine version of Jacques (Jack). Jaqueline looks a bit bizarre. Akin to spelling Jackie like Jakie instead.

Jenson is fine. It’s not my personal style, but it’s a fine name.

Jory - I don’t like this at all. Would probably be mistaken for Rory or Tory, etc.

Thanks for the opinions, I do mean [name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] as well, I just don’t know why but I like [name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f] better. As for the [name_u]Jackie[/name_u]/Jakie point, I understand what you are saying. I’ll consider the ‘c’.

I do like them both for a boy, I think. The GoT connection is definitely not a reason not to use the name, it’s just the first thing I thought of. I don’t have any other association with it.

Could you tell me, who is [name_u]Jory[/name_u] Cassel and what influence did he have in Game of Thrones? I just want to know, unless he was, like, Voldemort-class bad I’m not going to give up on the name.

I know this is a day after you posted; Thank you! I didn’t know [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] meant beautiful. Like, in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], I think? [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]’s really pretty.

Jojo is cute, though I’ve never seen it wear well on anyone over 12 ([name_u]Jojo[/name_u] Siwa feels like an oversized ten-year-old, tbh)
[name_u]Jackie[/name_u] was my go-to nickname for [name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is new. I like that it’s a letter name and a slight homage to my mom, who’s name starts with an L.
[name_f]Jenny[/name_f] and [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] I can’t use because I have family who go by [name_f]Jen[/name_f], [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], and such. [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] is really nice for a boy because it’s cute but not too cutesy. I can definitely see [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] on a fifteen-year-old, even!

He’s definitely not a bad guy! He was captain of the guards to House [name_u]Stark[/name_u] ( which is arguably the most noble house in the show). I mean, SPOILER ALERT I guess if people haven’t watched yet and are planning to - he does die defending the lord of the house from an attack. Hey! I said SPOILER ALERT!

No problem! I went to high school with a [name_u]Jojo[/name_u], so to me it seems quite normal :stuck_out_tongue: I’m glad you like [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]! I had a friend in high school named [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] and she went by both [name_u]Jackie[/name_u] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] sometimes.
