Is Thisbe too tragic?

I believe this name originated from the [name]Ovid[/name]'s “[name]Pyramus[/name] and [name]Thisbe[/name]” which is similar to “[name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]”. [name]Do[/name] you think this association is too negative? Does it give the name a bad image and make it unusable?

I don’t think it is!

If it’s o.k. to use [name]Juliet[/name]…I don’t see why [name]Thisbe[/name] can’t be used. It sounds lovely and lyrical.

[name]Thisbe[/name] is a lovely name and also one of my name crushes!

I think it’s definitely usable.

I’m not familiar with [name]Thisbe[/name]'s history, but if it was used in a [name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] esque story, I think it’s okay. [name]Juliet[/name] is very popular, and [name]Romeo[/name] has been frequently. Plus, I think it’s obscure enough that people won’t catch on right away that it has a tragic history.
I think it’s a lovely name, and if you want to use it, then do it.

I second what jyoti said. [name]Thisbe[/name]'s lovely .

I think the story isn’t a big deal as most people don’t know it and [name]Juliet[/name] hasn’t suffered from R&J.
It’s the rhyme with frisbee that bothers me as that’s what everyone says to me as soon as I mention it.

Honestly, my first association with [name]Thisbe[/name] is the player’s performance of [name]Pyramus[/name] and [name]Thisbe[/name] in A Midsummer [name]Night[/name]'s [name]Dream[/name]. (Thus die I, thus, thus, thus / Now I am dead / Now I am fled / Tongue, lose thy light / [name]Moon[/name] take thy flight / Now die, die, die, die, die…) It’s a very funny scene and I can’t hear [name]Thisbe[/name] without laughing a little bit. I don’t think it’s terribly usable. It strikes me as kind of a silly name.

Yeah, I’m with daisy451. My first association with [name]Thisbe[/name] is the hilarious scene in Midsummer, so it’s a very comedic, silly name to me. I think it’s still usable, though–it just feels a bit heavy-handed, kind of like wearing a shirt that says I’M WHIMSICAL in huge letters. To me it’s a GP name.

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Thisbe[/name].

If anything, [name]Thisbe[/name] is funny. I like it, maybe with [name]Bee[/name] as a nickname.
