Is Thomas boring?

Title says it all. What do you think? DH and I tried that app that matches names you both like and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] made the shortlist for both of us. Its quite popular in our province, but DH assures me that’s not a big deal. I think it’s classic and charming, but is it boring?

Not at all, I think it’s very handsome and classic. I’ve actually never met a [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].

I also like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. Solid classic name. I think especially if you have a more unique last name, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] would sound great.

I think it’s a classic, but personally I don’t like it.

I guess a classic I like is never boring to me ([name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]), but a classic I dislike is boring ([name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Edward[/name_m]).

But you both like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], so maybe you shouldn’t worry about it!

I love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] but hate the nn [name_m]Tommy[/name_m]…

It’s all a matter of style. There are those of us who will think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is classic, handsome, and will never go out of style, and thus could never be boring. There are others who prefer modern names or names outside the top 100, 500 or 1000, etc.

If you love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], use [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. At this point it’s been empirically proven after centuries of testing to be a good name that wears well.

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a strong classic that isn’t actually heard that often.
For some reason I’m thinking “[name_u]Timber[/name_u]” might be a sweet nickname for a little [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] before he grows into his name

I think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is absolutely lovely. It would be on my own shortlist should I not have an older cousin/God-brother named [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].

No. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] recently wormed its way into my favorite boy’s names, and I think there’s so much to love about it. As centuries of use have proven, you can’t go wrong with [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. Nowadays, I don’t think it’s as popular as it looks. Parents may still be using it as a first name to honor relatives but calling their sons by their middle names. At least that’s what I’ve run into with younger generations.

It’s a great name and definitely not overused where I am (Eastern U.S.)

I think it’s a classic, not boring at all.

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is lovely on a child today - it actually seems kinda refreshing with all the trendy names out there. I’d say classic rather than boring.

I’ve met a fair few of them, so it doesn’t wow me, but I wouldn’t say it’s boring. It’s classic and solid and with the NN options [name_m]Tom[/name_m] and [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] it feels flexible too

Echoing what other posters have said: [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is great. A lovely, solid classic that suits all ages and personalities. I love [name_m]Thom[/name_m] for a nickname - warm and familiar, but with a cool twist (like [name_m]Thom[/name_m] [name_m]Yorke[/name_m]!)

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]! I met a tiny baby with the name probably 8 years ago and he was the cutest. I’d asked what his name was, and his mom said, “[name_m]Thomas[/name_m],” with this ear-to-ear grin, like she was so at peace and in love with his name–I’m sure most moms are super stoked about their babies names, but I’ve never seen another mom show it in the way she gleamed and grinned, and something about her reaction has started a love affair with the name for me. I really am not too fond of [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] or any of the general nns (I sort of like Tommo or Masso, but I don’t think most people would find them too intuitive?!), but I think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is gorgeous! I can see the appeal in most classic names, although I generally try to pair them with a more unexpected middle. But [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] isn’t just a fuddy-duddy old name to me, there’s unexpected charm, and I imagine the sweetest little boy with the name. I’m currently torn between [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]/[name_u]Noah[/name_u]/[name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] for my own list…

All the best!

In my opinion, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is not boring; its nicknames [name_m]Tom[/name_m] and [name_m]Tommy[/name_m] are.

Honestly I do think it’s a bit boring in that it’s not “out there,” but I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. I do think it’s a very nice, classic, solid boy’s name.

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a classic! Perfect for all ages. Totally charming, elegance, masculine and full of cute nicknames. I love it!

Not boring at all!! I love this name! Classic & distinguished

I actually really like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]! Maybe because it reminds me of [name_m]Tom[/name_m] Hanks, hehe
I’m not a HUGE fan of [name_m]Tommy[/name_m], but I really like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. It feels like a classic, sophisticated name
