My partner and I are expecting twins in [name_u]November[/name_u] and one name that has completely stolen my heart is [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], because of it’s sound, elegance, rarity and because it allows us a variety of adorable nicknames, [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] among others. The problem is that my partner is on the fence about it because he thinks that [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] might be a bit too difficult to wear, in terms of spelling especially. What are your opinions on it? We live in [name_m]Wales[/name_m] (UK) if that helps or changes your response at all.
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is a favorite of mine! I love that it has so many nicknames and it’s not super popular. I could see spelling being an issue, but I’ve learned from my nieces and nephews that any name can encounter that lol I saw someone suggest spelling it more phonetically before (not sure if it was on here) as [name_f]Willamina[/name_f], which could be a nice solution
It isn’t my style, but I can see the appeal. One thing worth mentioning - your name is [name_f]Millie[/name_f], it is awfully similar to all of the nn’s you mentioned that you like.
I hope not as it is my favorite name. Seriously if I had a daughter tomorrow there is a very good chance her name would be [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]. For a twin to [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] “[name_f]Mina[/name_f]”, I like [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] “[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]” or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] “[name_f]Delia[/name_f]”, which incidentally complete my top three.
I don’t think it’s too much! I like the pp suggestion of maybe spelling it [name_f]Willamina[/name_f]. Either way It’s a beautiful name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have ideas for her sister or brother? Since [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is such a unique grounded vintage name and i think you need something just as unusual for her sibling. If your having another girl I love [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mina[/name_f] was on my list for a long time - [name_f]Mina[/name_f] being one of my absolute favourite names. I love [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] so much as a stand-alone too, and encourage you to use it if you want to. The worst that can happen is mispronunciation and/or misspellings - which happen to many of us throughout our lifetimes. It’s kind of inevitable, but there’s no real harm in it - and if you are planning on using a nickname most of the time, then certainly it shouldn’t be too big of an issue.
I truly think if you love it and can’t imagine calling your child anything else then you should definitely use it! Perhaps you could come up with pairings that match [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] to help you decide.
I love [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]! I don’t think it’s any more over the top than other feminized versions of male names such as [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]/[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]. You might have some people who have difficulty with the spelling, but I don’t think that’s a deal breaker personally. It’s a wonderful name and I would love to see it used more!
My full name is really [name_f]Camille[/name_f] (Cah-meel), I go by both interchangeably as well as the occasional [name_u]Cam[/name_u]. Perhaps [name_u]Billie[/name_u] is too close for comfort, but not [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] or [name_f]Willa[/name_f] to me. But thank you for pointing it out, hadn’t occurred to me. Probably once the kids are here I’ll just be mum anyway lol.
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is on my list just like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] was on my list for a boy. I’m having two little girls as it turns out I like the suggestion of [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] quite a lot!
Thank you for the feedback and YES, [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is so, so beautiful! [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is beautiful, you have amazing taste in names! As for name misspellings, I’m a pro at getting them, it seems that only 50% of the people I need have trouble with my name ([name_f]Camille[/name_f]), which is why I always say it’s [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] with an ‘e’… My partner is a [name_u]James[/name_u], so he really doesn’t understand how one could possibly live with the struggle eye rolls.
I think [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is beautiful! It is certainly wearable, but only if her twin’s name matches well. [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] & [name_f]Ava[/name_f] or [name_f]Kate[/name_f] would stand out whether you used a nn ([name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], etc.) or not.
I think it’s beautiful It’s a big name compared to the most popular names these days but I don’t see a problem with that! Lots of great nickname potential
