Is Wyatt too trendy?

So we had decided on [name]Wyatt[/name] way early on in our first pregnant. Later on the in pregnancy (before we knew the gender), [name]MIL[/name] made genius some comment like “Why” with our surname instead of [name]Wyatt[/name] Surname, and my husband immediately started saying it didn’t flow. Anyhow, the baby turned out to be a girl as did her little sister so it was a non-issue. Well, it’s almost 5 years later and we are having a boy. Funny thing, [name]MIL[/name] puts [name]Wyatt[/name] on her list. Yes, she sends me list and list of names. Husband now is open to it.

Problem…I still love the sound and wild west feel to [name]Wyatt[/name]. However, I feel like it’s gotten really popular. I personally have never met a little [name]Wyatt[/name]. We live in [name]Miami[/name] and so [name]Lucas[/name] and names that translate easier to Spanish seem to be more popular. However, my husband is from up [name]North[/name] and we went to school there, so there’s a good possibility we could move around.

Is [name]Wyatt[/name] too popular to use (assuming you are concerned about trendiness, which I am)?

It is, in my mind at least, in a group of names with [name]Emmett[/name] & [name]Everett[/name]. Soft sounding, strong feeling country type names.

It’s [name]Sheryl[/name] [name]Crow[/name]'s son’s name too.

I think it has a lot of appeal & could climb.

Popularity wise it feels similar to [name]Levi[/name] I guess. Not shockingly unheard of but nowhere near common.

I live in Minnesota and have family in Iowa and Wisconsin and I don’t think I’ve ever met a little [name]Wyatt[/name] but I would love to! But I agree with Taz that it sounds like a name that would fit in pretty easily with other names that are popular for boys right now. For me I think that makes [name]Wyatt[/name] the perfect amount of trendiness for a boy name. For boy names I like when they can fit in but are still unique enough that there aren’t 8 in a classroom.

At the end of the day though I think any name that you still like after 5 years is definitely a keeper! Are there any other names that you guys like as much?

I personally only know one [name]Wyatt[/name] and I know of one other. I agree with meganelizabeth that if you still like it after 5years, it’s a keeper.

I looked it up and last year it was number 58 in the state of [name]Florida[/name]. It was 48 nation wide.

I don’t think so, especially not as far to say trendy. But I adore the name [name]Wyatt[/name] so maybe I’m a bit bias.

@meganelizabeth: Yes, there are other names. [name]Everett[/name] being one of them. We have a girl named [name]Scarlett[/name] so I am concerned about the same ending and creating a trend that leaves out our other girl. [name]Wyatt[/name] does share the double tt’s with [name]Scarlett[/name] as well. I’m also pushing for [name]Boden[/name] (nn Bodie), but DH is not completely on board. I loved [name]Wyatt[/name] in 2007, but over the girls, especially after Sherly [name]Crow[/name] chose the name it has a lost a bit of its luster as I am concerned about picking a super popular name.

It was on our list for a boy too, but it wasn’t a top contender because it sounds odd with our last name and there was some other names we preferred. I really love it. It has a softer sound, but inspires an old west feel. It has a good meaning and history. I don’t think it will ever be a top 20 name in most places, but might depend on which state you end up living in. I don’t think it will ever be super popular like [name]Jacob[/name] or [name]Mason[/name] etc. I would go with it.

I think [name]Wyatt[/name] is a great name and it isn’t incredibly popular right now though it does show up on a few tv shows and Sherly [name]Crow[/name] did choose if for her son. I’d be more worried about the double-t ending being very matchy with [name]Scarlett[/name]. (You’d have a similar problem with [name]Everett[/name] or [name]Emmett[/name]). Though if you [name]Wyatt[/name] is your number 1 choice I wouldn’t let the similarity dissuade you from using the name (as long as you don’t give both of them matching -att and -ett nn).

I like [name]Wyatt[/name] a lot. I do not know any babies or boys with this name.

In 2011, [name]Wyatt[/name] was the 57th most popular name in the state of [name]Florida[/name], with 357 little boys being given the name.

By comparison, neither [name]Everett[/name] nor Bowden / [name]Boden[/name] was in the top 100 for [name]Florida[/name]. There were 57 Everetts, 0 Bodens (though 6 in 2010), and a little Bowden has never been born in [name]Florida[/name] (at least not since 1911). 16 boys were named [name]Tate[/name].

For your girls, [name]Scarlett[/name] was the 86th most popular name (178 little girls), and 99 girls were called [name]Sadie[/name].

[name]Ah[/name] [name]Blade[/name], always here to talk sense into me and guide me gently back to [name]Boden[/name]/Bowden. That’s awesome that there were no Bodens last year and never a Bowden! I find myself leaning towards the [name]Boden[/name] spelling though. I’m concerned bout the [name]Bow[/name]-den pronounciation in [name]Bow[/name] rhyming with Cow. I think I can get over [name]Bode[/name] starting the name, as I have gotten over Sad and Scar stating my girls’ names. Maybe that is the new trend in my family: morbid sounding name beginnings! Ha!

[name]Blade[/name], can you just get my husband on board with [name]Boden[/name]?

Last night, I was purposely pairing it with 2 other names I know he didn’t like so that he would be forced to pick [name]Boden[/name] between the three.

oh, those feminine wiles.

In [name]Miami[/name], where 76% of the population speaks a language other than English (Spanish & kreyol, mainly), the [name]Bow[/name]-rhymes-with-cow thing would be completely alien. [name]Boden[/name], too, would nearly always be correctly pronounced, since Os in Spanish are usually long.
