Isaac...is it too biblical?

[name]Both[/name] my family and I are very traditional and I don’t want a too out there name. My current favorite is [name]Isaac[/name]. Most I know seem to really like it and I love traditional/masculine/biblical boy names but it is not super common, plus it’s not weird. My Dad however said “it’s okay for a kid but he might not like it as a teenager. It is too bibilical and he might get teased”. What are your thoughts? I really want to pick a name that my son will also like.

I’ve known several [name]Isaac[/name]'s and none of them have ever been teased because of their name, I don’t think that it’s too biblical

I have known a few [name]Isaac[/name]'s, and all of them have loved their names. Some of them had parents who weren’t religious but chose the biblical [name]Isaac[/name] for their sons anyway. I think it is a great name! It’s so strong

Their seems to be a rise in popularity again of masculine biblical names ([name]Abraham[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Isaiah[/name]). However, [name]Isaac[/name] is not over-used, so it’s a great choice!

Personally, I wouldn’t use it because it’s too Biblical for me, but there is no way that an [name]Isaac[/name] would get teased for having a Biblical name. Not unless he went to a really secular school or something.
But my name is [name]Rachel[/name], which is pretty biblical, and I’ve yet to be teased about having a biblical name.

[name]Isaac[/name] is definitely a strong name, so I would suggest using it. Besides drawing up biblical connotations for me, I also think of [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Slade[/name], the lead singer of The Fray.

It’s not a biblical name to me - it’s been used enough to be a name that goes across the board. [name]Abraham[/name] is more biblical to me.

I have a brother named [name]Isaac[/name] and he’s 23. He never got made fun of for his name ever. His nn in high school was Sac. He loves his name because he never met another [name]Isaac[/name] and i think it grew very well with him. My mom did pick [name]Isaac[/name] because it was bibilical but thats because we all have bible names [name]Mary[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Leah[/name], [name]David[/name]. [name]Isaac[/name] is also becoming more common so i don’t see kids ever making fun of another kid for being named [name]Isaac[/name]. Its a great choice and im glad your spelling it right not [name]Issac[/name]. I have seen it like this a few times and i really don’t like it.

[name]Isaac[/name] is just a great name in and of itself - regardless of its Biblical roots. I really cannot imagine how any teasing would occur from the name. Some of the most popular boy names have Biblical origins ([name]Jacob[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]John[/name], etc., etc.), so no teasing is likely to occur on that basis. (There is also the famous scientist/ physicist – [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Newton[/name] – who built an improved telescope and made neat scientific discoveries.) I don’t think you need to worry about using [name]Isaac[/name].

I think you’d have to have a pretty good knowledge of the bible to tease for that (I went to [name]Sunday[/name] school and church a bit as a kid and I had to think twice about who [name]Isaac[/name] might be, I am still not entirely sure). Heaps and heaps of perfectly ordinary common boy’s names are biblical ([name]Matthew[/name], [name]Mark[/name], [name]Luke[/name], [name]John[/name] anyone? And look at the rising popularity of [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Jonah[/name]). I can’t imagine it being a big problem.

I like lots of biblical names, though I don’t consider myself religious.

I guess I need to clarify…I don’t mind that [name]Isaac[/name] is Bilical, I am in fact very religious and believe in the bible. I just don’t want it to sound too old sounding/too prophet sounding…like to me [name]Moses[/name] and [name]Abraham[/name] and Ezekial are just way too biblical sounding. I don’t think he would be teased b/c it is a biblical name, but more just wondering in general if a child/teenager would like that name or wish he had a more simple name like [name]Cole[/name] or [name]Max[/name] or something. My Dad is really opinionated though and he didn’t like my first son’s name ([name]Levi[/name]) at first either but now it’s grown on him and he likes it a lot!

Honestly, any kid teasing him would probably be named [name]Adam[/name] or [name]Michael[/name], so I think the irony cancels it out. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. [name]Isaac[/name] is a very mainstream (yet unique) name. Now, Methuselah, on the other hand, might render some teasing…

Seeing as your first son’s name is [name]Levi[/name], you might find yourself worrying that your third son has to be either [name]Noah[/name] or [name]Jacob[/name] to fit the “pattern.” If this could potentially be a problem, you might want to consider something similar to [name]Isaac[/name], but not biblical.

[name]Isaac[/name] is a fairly popular name around here (for teenagers) i don’t think it’s a problem

A boy that my 11-year-old daughter likes has the middle name of [name]Isaac[/name], and she LOVES this name. She considers [name]Isaac[/name] to be an awesome name. (We’re in southern [name]California[/name].)

I do have the blue seatpost, but it has some nasty scratches that will show when set to my height So for now I have the New Ultimate on. That one is also lighter But the blue [name]Isaac[/name] post will go in again at some point for sure I just have to get it sanded and polished first.

As another believer in the Bible, I totally understand your question, as it’s one that I’ve asked myself. I love the name [name]Isaac[/name], but have also wondered if it’s too religious sounding. I think I’ve decided that I would certainly consider [name]Isaac[/name] for a future son’s name, although I wouldn’t give all my kids biblical names. I [name]LOVE[/name] the nn [name]Ike[/name] - which I think any teenager would also really like!

I don’t think it’s a bad name. Can’t let the meaning or association push you away from a name you really love…

It’s very popular where I live. I know three their ages are 3, 4, and 14

I don’t think it’s over the top biblical, to answer your second question. It’s kinda biblical, but not the first and only association (like, say, [name]Moses[/name]. Or [name]Jesus[/name]).

I think your dad is just relating to names from the viewpoint of an older generation, when names like [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Isaiah[/name] and, yes, [name]Isaac[/name] were identified much more heavily with biblical patriarchs than with ordinary kids and teens. These days, no one would bat an eye at [name]Isaac[/name]. [name]Ike[/name] is a cute nn. To the person whose brother was called Sac, I’m surprised he didn’t get teased for that (but maybe he did, and didn’t talk about it at the dinner table).

I definitely agree with this- too biblical for my personal taste, but he wouldn’t get made fun of.

I dont think [name]Isaac[/name] is too biblical. I grew up with an [name]Isaac[/name], no one ever teased him. I dont see how it could be more biblical than the mega popular [name]Noah[/name].

I think [name]Isaac[/name] is a strong, beautiful choice for a son. Though it’s biblical, I see it as a fresh, modern classic that would go very nicely with [name]Levi[/name]. I can’t imagine a boy getting teased for this name. Biblical names are so mainstream these days that I think an [name]Isaac[/name] would be a stand out amongst Jacobs, Joshuas and Ethans but would still fit in with the name trends.
