Isaac or Emeric?

Please help me decide on a little brother for Evangeline and Juliette. I’m 50/50 on Isaac and Emeric and absolutely cannot decide. We have a middle name (3 syllables) which goes well with either, and our last name is Smith.
I like how classic Isaac is and I like biblical names for boys, but I know it’s quite popular which is a bit of a turn off. I like that he wouldn’t share a first initial with his siblings, and I can think of several cute nicknames.
However, I also like Emeric - it sounds classic, goes well with his siblings, and isn’t used very often. It might sound a bit more stuffy (think, Frederick).
My husband prefers Isaac but hasn’t ruled out Emeric and is open to it - he just doesn’t like the nickname Ricky, so we’d have to come up with something else.
What do you think? Which name do you prefer? Any help would be much appreciated!

I really like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], for all the reasons you mentioned. I think it flows better with your last name than [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] too and it’s just perfect with your girls’ names!

I love [name_m]Emeric[/name_m], it always feels very unrated to me, yet it’s so handsome.

[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is a good solid name that you can’t go wrong with but I just feel it’s really overdone or at least in my area which has made me a little ‘sick’ of it if I’m honest.

I think [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is perfect with his sisters’ names! [name_m]Wonderful[/name_m] choice.

[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] I is the best choice here I think.

If you go with [name_m]Emeric[/name_m], you could do [name_f]Meri[/name_f] for a nickname instead?

A few other I names with less popularity:

[name_m]Irving[/name_m]
[name_m]Ivan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ira[/name_m]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] your girls’ names. I think [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] goes great.

A nickname for [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] could be [name_m]Mick[/name_m] or [name_m]Micky[/name_m]. But I must admit I don’t like [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] as much because it reminds me of emetic. :grimacing:

Emeric is a really fun choice! I like Isaac, but I prefer Emeric for being a little more unexpected. I don’t think it sounds too stuffy, considering that Em- names are so on-trend at the moment (Emma, Emilia & Emily for girls, but also Emmett for boys and Emerson for any gender! Or even the very similar Emery). As for nicknames, Em feels the most natural to me! And Eri could work too.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] :herb:

He’s handsome, soft, outdoorsy and has a lovely meaning ‘laughter’ along with great biblical history. I like the nickname options along with how he would have his own individual initial. I think the name is fabulous and sounds great with Evangelin3 and Juliett3.

I like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. As you said it has the classic vibe that matches well with siblings names. [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] doesn’t have that classy sound to me. It comes off more trendy (New [name_f]England[/name_f] USA is that helps at all) and sounds more like a spice then name to me.

Not easy as Emeric is distinct and unexpected.

But I would myself choose Isaac for the reasons you listed and I’ve just loved the name for a long time, being so handsome and sturdy while also having a poetic feel. I also prefer the sound of Isaac and possible Zac nickname, over Eric/Rick/Mick (though Em/Meri are cool, you’d probably have to work to get them to stick). Finally, I suspect with a three syllable middle, Isaac will flow better as a whole.

Other names (though I think Isaac is a winning name):

Xander
Zachary
Felix
Wilfred
Sebastian

Good luck!

Personally I would 100% say Emeric because of your last name. Isaac is a very common first name and Smith is literally the most common last name in North America. If you name him Isaac Smith he’ll be put in a pool with thousands of other Isaac Smiths. There’s already multiple famous people named Isaac Smith too. It’ll make him extremely hard to find online for job searches, etc. Emeric is nice because it’s rare but it’s still easy to say and pronounce, and since he will have such a common last name with a rare name there’ll be a lot less Emeric Smiths than Isaac Smiths.

I’d go less common with [name_m]Smith[/name_m]

I prefer [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] personally - cheerful and lovely.

[name_m]Emeric[/name_m] is nice too if you want something more unusual - nicknames could be [name_m]Micky[/name_m], [name_f]Meri[/name_f], [name_m]Mac[/name_m], [name_m]Mick[/name_m], Merik, [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_m]Eric[/name_m]

You could use Em/“M” as a nickname? I like [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] but think there could be people out there who pronounce it em-AIR-ik, not sure how you feel about potentially correcting others. [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is the clear winner here for me, it has the classic feel and yes it’s been widely used, but that’s because it’s handsome! Also it’s not even in the top 40 currently.

I think in general I prefer [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] (although like some -ric names like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] and [name_m]Audric[/name_m] over [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] and Isaac!), but I like how grand [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] feels with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]! I think stylistically it fits a bit better (but I also like the religious feel of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] together, and I like that [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] doesn’t repeat an initial!). I think in the end, [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is my preference, but just by a little! [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] is very cool. I think you could find another nickname for him that doesn’t involve [name_m]Rick[/name_m] or Ricky… some of my first ideas are [name_m]Rio[/name_m] and [name_m]Mick[/name_m], maybe even [name_m]Mac[/name_m] as a stretch? [name_m]Or[/name_m] [name_f]Emery[/name_f]?

Good luck!

You can’t go wrong.
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] has a wonderful meaning. So does [name_m]Emeric[/name_m]!
With [name_m]Smith[/name_m], I would go with a less common first name. I also like that [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] has a different initial that you didn’t use before. [name_m]Emeric[/name_m] has cool nicknames like [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_m]Ric[/name_m] and [name_m]Eric[/name_m]. I believe you can easily avoid [name_m]Ricky[/name_m].
However, I also think [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] fits very well with Evangelin€ and Juli&tte. They have a similar popularity and vibe. If [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is your husband’s favorite name, I think it may be the perfect choice for you.

Good luck!
