I have always loved the name [name]Isabel[/name] (this spelling), and it’s on my long list. However, I’ve recently come across the spelling [name]Isobel[/name], and realized that it is the Scottish variation of the name. I am in the US, but I am part Irish and part Scottish, so this spelling is growing on me. I’m not sure if I like it better than [name]Isabel[/name] though.
I think I would opt for [name]Isabel[/name]. I just like the softer “A” as opposed to the “O” (which I ALWAYS overemphasize, whether I try to or not!).
Honestly, though, I prefer [name]Isabelle[/name] to all the options. It feels more complete and feminine to me, while [name]Isobel[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name] feel more harsh. Either way, though, it’s a fabulous name.
I like it better with an a: [name]Isabel[/name]. Sounds more feminine to me.
My ranks are [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Isabel[/name], and [name]Isobel[/name] is the last.
I much prefer [name]Isobel[/name]. I like the way it looks better, and I like the slight difference in how it’s pronounced. I always pronounce [name]Isabel[/name] “EES-ah-bel” as it is pronounced it Spanish. [name]Isabelle[/name], I pronounce “IZ-ah-bel” and [name]Isobel[/name] is “IZ-oh-bel.”
