what do you girls think? I like how uncommon and pretty this name is. [name]Hope[/name] it stays uncommon. Nn Iz/[name]Izzy[/name]! I know, popular nn, but it doesn’t bother me. I still think it’s super cute and my favorite ( and most intuitive) for [name]Isadora[/name]. Of course I would use her full name a LOT too, it’s so beautiful. [name]How[/name] does this name sound with big sis [name]Violet[/name]? [name]Both[/name] have that vintage feel that I like.
I don’t picture people when I hear names (unless I know one) and [name]Isadora[/name] makes me think of a boy I know with the middle name [name]Isadore[/name] >.< Don’t let that deter you, I just don’t know any Isadora’s.
I think it’s a beautiful name. Very pleasing sounds and Izzy as a nickname, since it’s popular, grounds it in the now too. I also love it with the big sister Violet. They sounds great together!
Thank you! Very well said, and I agree, the nn izzy grounds the full name and I love that. [name]Glad[/name] you also like how this name sounds in my sib set! I do too. [name]Ah[/name], such a beautiful name
[name]Isadora[/name] always makes me think of the character [name]Isadora[/name] Quagmire from A Series of Unfortunate Events. Not a bad association, and it’s a gorgeous name.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Isadora[/name]. It’s such a great alternative to [name]Isabella[/name]. It sounds so vintage and so sophisticated. It sounds perfect with [name]Violet[/name]. I picture an elegant woman, a ballet dancer, with dark hair who wears red nailpolish year-round. Perfect name!
[name]Isadora[/name] is very pretty. A little member of the Norwegian royal family is called [name]Leah[/name] [name]Isadora[/name], so I picture her when I hear the name. She’s beautiful and very sweet:
I love [name]Isadora[/name]. [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Duncan[/name] is an excellent namesake. I think it works well with [name]Violet[/name], though [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] feels a little over-the-top feminine/romantic to me, and [name]Juliet[/name] is quite rhymey with [name]Violet[/name]. In the middle place I might prefer something either short and sleek, or something with a slight edge.
[name]Isadora[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name] [name]Dione[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name] [name]Octavia[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name] [name]Augusta[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name] [name]Colette[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name] [name]Fleur[/name]
I adore the name [name]Isadora[/name]. But I’m very biased as it is my daughters name. In my experience people either like it or not. No in-between. I think it is lovely with [name]Violet[/name].
Sorry, I must be the one lone [name]Berry[/name] who finds no appeal in [name]Isadora[/name] whatsoever. I think it’s got a pretty look and sound, but as a [name]Christian[/name], if I had a daughter, I would firmly believe she is a gift from God, not [name]Isis[/name], it’s just one meaning I can’t get past. I much prefer [name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Isabelle[/name] for that reason. I do think [name]Izzy[/name]'s adorable, though, and [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Isadora[/name] do work nicely together (again, biased, but I like [name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] together more, though).
If you’re looking for an unusual [name]Izzy[/name] variant without the popularity of the [name]Bella[/name] names, have you considered [name]Isaline[/name]/Ysaline? I think it’s quite beautiful. Or even [name]Louisa[/name]/[name]Eloise[/name], nn [name]Izzy[/name].
I really like [name]Isadora[/name]. Like others, I see it as a fresh alternative to the ever popular [name]Isabella[/name], and I find the sound more pleasent. I don’t know any [name]Isadora[/name]'s, but I think of an Edwardian era beauty or the tragic dancer [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Duncan[/name]. The combo [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] is absolutely goregous. And it goes very well with [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Robbie[/name]!
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
@ [name]Ash[/name] – Your opinion is valid, but to some people, a daughter would be a gift from [name]Isis[/name]. Not everyone is [name]Christian[/name], and so to some people, the meaning is equally beautiful and special as a name meaning “gift from God” to you. So you like the sound and look, but dislike the meaning for personal reasons, but don’t be quick to say to other people that they shouldn’t think their children are gifts from [name]Isis[/name]. They might not be your religion.
You might not have meant those italicized words to come off sounding sort of snappy, but to me they did, like it was wrong for some one to think differently, and I’m absolutely sure you didn’t mean that since I know your a very kind and considerate person, just telling how it sounded. [name]Hope[/name] I don’t come across as rude. I’m not trying to.
I like [name]Isis[/name] more than [name]Isadora[/name], actually. I just find the -dora heavy.
I do like that it’s less popular than [name]Isabella[/name] but so is [name]Isabel[/name]/[name]Ismay[/name]/[name]Isis[/name]/[name]Iris[/name] etc. I don’t HATE [name]Isadora[/name], in fact I wish I liked it more than I do, but I don’t love it.
To me it has a similar [name]Art[/name] Deco feel as [name]Zelda[/name], but I love [name]Zelda[/name] a bit more.
That’s not what I meant at all. Of course I am biased in favor of my beliefs/convictions/faith, but who isn’t? That’s why I made sure I said if I were having a child, I would look at it that way–obviously we all think differently and believe differently, my intention wasn’t to offend.
This is probably coming from months of pent up frustration from other suggestions from Berries to consider [name]Isadora[/name] rather than [name]Isabelle[/name]–no, I don’t care about [name]Isabelle[/name]'s popularity, or [name]Bella[/name]'s/[name]Belle[/name]'s, and no, I don’t like [name]Isadora[/name] better than [name]Isabelle[/name]. I don’t post my list very often anymore, but almost invariably every time I am looking at switching my list around, someone always suggests I drop [name]Isabelle[/name], or that it’s ugly because of its popularity. It’s frustrating, and I love [name]Isabelle[/name] for religious reasons, reasons that are very meaningful and cherished by me, and I’m not asking, “What do you think about [name]Isabelle[/name]?” or “I love [name]Isabelle[/name] but am turned off by the popularity, what would be a nice alternative?” And yet [name]Isadora[/name] is pushed on me, when I clearly say I love [name]Isabelle[/name] for its Biblical significance (as the French form of [name]Elizabeth[/name]), and [name]Isadora[/name] goes against that. I’m not trying to complain about Nameberry, it’s a great site, but I think that’s all built to my sort of [name]Isadora[/name]-explosion. If it has religious significance to you (or anyone), I don’t want to stand in the way or try and ruin it for anyone else. I just couldn’t understand why I was the only [name]Christian[/name] that seemed to feel that way, maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut.
[name]Ash[/name] - yeah I totally understand your point of view… I’m not religious, so the meaning doesn’t bother me… I look at it as a positive thing personally. But I also like [name]Isabelle[/name]…it’s not for me but if it’s your favorite and has meaning for you then that’s great. It is also a very pretty name.
As for my combo, [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] is very girlie but I think that’s what I like most about it
I still have other names on my list but [name]Isadora[/name] has definitely made
It onto The short list today
I love [name]Isadora[/name]! It is beautiful and feminine without being too flowery (It seems stronger, maybe a bit more grounded, than other frillier names.). [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] is a gorgeous combo too. [name]Isadora[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] sound great together. However, [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] are a bit similar. This should not really be a problem because [name]Juliet[/name] would be a middle name, but it’s just something to consider.
Also, have you considered [name]Sadie[/name] as a nickname for [name]Isadora[/name]? Iz/[name]Izzy[/name] is adorable, but if you want something a little more unique, [name]Sadie[/name] could work.
Oh I loooove [name]Sadie[/name] as a nn but I feel that it’s not intuitive at all. I would feel weird calling her isadora and also [name]Sadie[/name]. I feel like it needs to be one or the other…or maybe it can work? Hmmm. Yeah [name]Juliet[/name] is close to [name]Violet[/name] but I don’t mind since it’a just a middle name. [name]Love[/name] the flow of [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], feels like the right combo for me ya know? But I will also explore other options just to be sure
[name]Ash[/name], I’m sorry I made you feel bad. No, you’re perfectly allowed to have you opinions (and probably other [name]Christian[/name]'s aren’t as bothered by it maybe because they don’t care so much about meaning as sound?) and I understand your love for [name]Isabelle[/name]. It’s a beautiful name and who cares about the popularity! [name]Isabelle[/name] doesn’t seem like it would fit with your other styles at all >.<
Please don’t feel like you have to keep your mouth shut. You are allowed to express your opinion as much as I’m allowed to tell you how it came off to me. That might have just been me though because I get so frustrated of my religious names (the ones from my religion or other Pagan faiths) getting looked over or called awful or used by Christians who say “Who cares if it’s a goddess, I just like it” Well I care
So we’re both having a sort of explosion here >.<
Back to the topic:
I’m glad Isadora made your short list! Isadora Juliet is very girly, but I like very girly names. Juliet isn’t my style because all I think of is teen suicide, but don’t let that bother you. It’s a very pretty combo!
[name]Isadora[/name] is beautiful! I have [name]Isadora[/name] [name]Poppy[/name] on my own list. I like that it’s unusual but still heard of, and it has great nickname options! I love it with [name]Violet[/name]
