Islet or Islette?

Let me preface this by saying that I am not usually a fan of “made-up” names and so fully understand that this will not be to everyone’s taste, and that’s okay. We like Islet [name_f]Estella[/name_f] (islet being a small island, a nod to where we’re from, and [name_f]Estella[/name_f] being a family name), but are undecided on the spelling.

I prefer Islet as it stands on its own, but think that Islette (the Old [name_m]French[/name_m] origin of islet) better matches the style of her siblings [name_f]Selena[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and [name_m]Eldon[/name_m] [name_u]Douglas[/name_u]. So, what do you all think? Islet [name_f]Estella[/name_f] or Islette [name_f]Estella[/name_f]? They would be pronounced the same way.

I’m not sure how to say it, is it Iz-let or Eye-let? I personally would pick Islet for my personal taste but with your sibset, I think Islette [name_f]Estella[/name_f] is perfect!

Although you’re pronouncing them the same way, I think a lot of people would put emphasis on the -ette in Islette, and not in Islet.

Islette! I think it looks more like a name/less like a word.

Islette looks more name-like to me but, since it’s a word name (like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]) I’d probably go with Islet so it’s not confusing- if that makes sense?

Islet vs. Islette- I would vary my pronunciation.
For Islet I’d say EYE-let.
For Islette I’d say eye-LET

Islet has the pronunciation that you’re looking for, even if you might get a few Is-lets every one in a while. Islette looks like a name, but I’d be more inclined to pronounce it as Is-let instead of Eye-let.
