Isobel

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]

I’m still tossing up on our girls name to go with [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m].

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I like scottish names (yes I know [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] isn’t scottish) and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] are top on the list for girls.

I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f] too for no particular reason other than just loving it.

I keep thinking [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] is too confusing because there are other ways to spell it so i ‘cross it off the list’ but then I keep coming back to it because it’s just so beautiful, classic and it’s my grandmothers middle name (same spelling too).I try and ask myself would it really be an issue if there are other ways to spell the name? But I’m worried I’ll regret it and she will have a lifetime of confusion. I love the nicknames too like [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] but is that enough to justify the name?

What do you think?

Thanks

Based on your description, it seems you like Isobel more and I think you’d regret if you didn’t use it :joy:. I think Isobel goes best with Lachlan and Hugo, and maybe you can use Isla as a nickname for Isobel. As for the spelling issue, my own name is Isabella and most people correctly assume the spelling when said aloud (besides occasionally getting called Isabelle). So I can imagine the is-o could throw people off since I’ve never had to clarify whether it’s Isobella or Isabella. I have gone by all of the nicknames you mentioned before, and I really like being able to choose between a number of options and seeing which I like best. I hope some of my experience helps. I think both options are great!

I have a close friend whose name is Isobel, and while she does have to correct people on spelling, she adores the uniqueness of her name! Plus, to be fair, there are so so many ways to spell Isobel that one with any spelling would have to correct people. The Isobel way is so streamlined and chic, so pretty. It sounds like you really feel connected to this name, too, so it gets my vote!

[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] is absolutely lovely!! That’s my favourite spelling too!!

I have a baby [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]! Im all for any spelling :joy:

I dont see another way to spell [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and i love it with the boy names you have mentioned

To be honest [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] always confuses me because even though I know it’s supposed to be pronounced the same as [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], my mind always automatically goes to Ice-Oh-Bell. That said, I am always a proponent of using whatever spelling you prefer even if it’ll mean spelling corrections because ultimately everyone has to spell their name for important things. I have a very popular name with the very common spelling and I still get asked to spell it just because there are always unique spellings for every name.

I have a well known name and I still have to correct people on pronunciation and spelling. Use the name if you love it.

I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is also likely to be misspelled and I don’t like it nearly as much as [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] is lovely and a great match for your boy names.
