I’ve recently come across the name [name_f]Issa[/name_f] (pronounced ‘ee-suh’) and wanted some thoughts on it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it as a stand alone name or do you think it needs something longer?
What longer names would you use that could shorten to [name_f]Issa[/name_f]?
I think it’s a cool name! Short vowel names are quite trendy at the moment, and I think [name_f]Issa[/name_f] would fit right in. I do like the [name_f]Isa[/name_f] spelling more, it just looks more “real” to me? But either way it’s a sweet, sunny choice, and I don’t think it needs to be a nickname If I did have to use a longer name for it, I’d do [name_f]Isidora[/name_f] or [name_f]Inessa[/name_f]!
[name_f]Issa[/name_f] is pretty in sound and style - reminds of names like [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Minna[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f], but not so familiar.
I do prefer [name_f]Isa[/name_f] (maybe because the only [name_f]Issa[/name_f] I’ve met was a boy?) but I think [name_f]Issa[/name_f] could stand alone!
Issa is a fairly popular name for boys. In [name_m]Islam[/name_m], it’s the name for [name_m]Jesus[/name_m]. So beware that people might assume your little girl is a little boy!
That being said, [name_f]Issa[/name_f] [name_f]Rae[/name_f] could really be changing this! I know one woman who goes by [name_f]Isa[/name_f] and it’s short for Lisa. Variations like Lisette or Analisa would be cute longer forms for little [name_f]Issa[/name_f].
In Spanish and [name_m]French[/name_m], names like [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] are pronounsed ee-sa-bel, so I think a world of Is names are also open to you here.
It feels insubstantial to me mainly because of the breathy sounds - nothing to do with the shortness. I don’t think it’s unuseable in its own right and as others have pointed out it fits with current ‘4 letter vowel name’ trends - you don’t need a longer form if this is what you love.
I think you could get away with many Is- names to yield [name_f]Issa[/name_f] as long as you pronounce with the same ‘ees’ sound rather than ‘iz (and as long as that pronunciation is intuitive where you are). [name_f]Isannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] were first to come to mind. [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] is one of my favourites
I love [name_f]Inessa[/name_f] or [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] nn [name_f]Issa[/name_f]! Thank you so much- I don’t think I would have thought of those myself.
Thank you I had no idea! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it would still be the case if it was spelt [name_f]Isa[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Issa[/name_f]?
Thank you! Another person suggested [name_f]Inessa[/name_f] as a longe name for it and I think I might like [name_f]Inessa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Issa[/name_f] more than [name_f]Issa[/name_f] by itself!
I like it. It is familiar enough due to all the popular [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] names, but different and fresh.
And I agree [name_f]Inessa[/name_f] is gorgeous, in case you prefer the longer version.
[name_f]Larissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Isaura[/name_f]
[name_f]Vasilisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Carissa[/name_f]
I have only ever known one little girl named Isa but I thought it was beautiful. What about Isana (ee-sah-na? Its longer, unique, and goes perfectly with Isa. Im kinda jealous I didnt find this name before haha.
Also Inessa is stunning as well. It’s unique and gives me very feminine vibes.
I would go with the [name_f]Isa[/name_f] spelling to get your intended pronunciation. [name_f]Issa[/name_f] reads ih-suh like the ending of [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] to me.
