I’m 22 weeks pregnant with my second child (a boy) and my husband and I are still debating over names. I prefer more classic names (my favourites are [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]) whereas my husband seems to like mostly Italian names (he is of an Italian background). Some of the names he has suggested include: [name_m]Franco[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Luciano[/name_m], [name_m]Marco[/name_m] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. Of those, I don’t mind [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Marco[/name_m] or [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], but I don’t really love any of them either. I’m not convinced I’d like this baby to have an Italian name particularly as my daughter doesn’t.
Does anyone have any suggestions of names my husband and I might both agree on? Our styles seem to be quite different. A name that maybe “sounds” Italian, but isn’t? Is there such a name? Help!
Maybe other names ending in O might still evoke an ‘Italian feel’ as they are similar to the names your husband likes but not actually Italian in origin? E.g:
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]–technically Italian, but easily crosses over
Perhaps your husband might go for a classic name with a close Italian variation
[name_m]Jerome[/name_m]-- The Italian version is [name_m]Gerome[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]-- [name_m]Samuele[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]-- [name_m]Vittorio[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u] --[name_m]Agosto[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]-- [name_u]Daniele[/name_u]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]–[name_m]Adriano[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]–[name_m]Alessandro[/name_m]
[name_m]Amadeus[/name_m]-- [name_m]Amedeo[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]–[name_m]Benjamino[/name_m]
This might sound rude, but how Italian is your husband? Did he or his parents immigrate from [name_f]Italy[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] all his siblings have Italian-sounding names? If so, I’d say he has a strong case for wanting an Italian name. Either way, people often like different styles of names for boys than they do for girls. And I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] can actually go well with an Italian-sounding brother. I do love [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is nice too.
Others to consider:
[name_m]Enzo[/name_m] (on it’s own or short for [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m])
[name_m]Arturo[/name_m] “[name_m]Art[/name_m]”
[name_m]Bernardo[/name_m] “[name_f]Benni[/name_f]”
[name_m]Julio[/name_m]
[name_m]Ludo[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcelo[/name_m]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m]
[name_m]Rocco[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Rocco[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_u]Nico[/name_u] would all sound nice with violet without sounding too italian
I think this is a good suggestions. Classic names, with the Italian style O ending.
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_m]Miles[/name_m], nn [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]/[name_m]Rocco[/name_m]
I think [name_m]Leo[/name_m] would be my choice. It goes great with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], it’s a really classic name, and it’s got the “italian-ish” feel.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]? If so, I would think [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] would be a great pick! I would’ve never in a million years thought it was Italian, because it’s so international, and very familiar in English-speaking countries (well, it is here, and I think it is in the UK, so I’d assume it was near you, as well?), so I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] would be a great pair.
Is your hubby open to doing something like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Franco[/name_m] or something? Your classic FN and his Italian heritage for a middle? I agree that [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is also a great idea. I think [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] is usually more popular amongst Italians, but [name_m]Leo[/name_m] feels very Italian, but also… not. lol. I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] would also be a great pair.
I’m struggling to think of any Italian names that also… aren’t? But I think [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], etc., could be great options, or letting him use an Italian middle might also be a great idea.
I don’t think [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] has been suggested yet? [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] seem like great fits. [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] also feel very pan-European to me.
The suggested names that best fit into this category for me are:
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]/[name_m]Rafael[/name_m]
[name_m]John[/name_m]-[name_m]Paul[/name_m]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Alessandro[/name_m] or [name_m]Sandro[/name_m]
[name_m]Armand[/name_m]
