[name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s family is 100% Italian and it’s very important to him that we use an Italian name for our daughter. I am all for the idea but we can’t find a name that really works for us! [name_u]Ever[/name_u] since I was a teenager, I’ve known that I want to use family names for my children’s middle names and I don’t want to and will not compromise that (husband agrees). For our daughter’s middle name we’re using my mother-in-law’s name, [name_f]Angela[/name_f]. We aren’t into double a endings but it seems like it is impossible to avoid. Can you think of any Italian names that flow extremely well with [name_f]Angela[/name_f]?!

my favourite name ever is [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], which is italian. [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f] doesn’t sound too bad, just not sure about the a sound being at the end of [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] and the beginning of [name_f]Angela[/name_f].
I actually have two very bad associations with the name [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
Italian names are gorgeous so I’m sure you’ll find something lovely!!

[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f]
I used an Italian site and these names don’t end in -a and are still classified as Italian according to the site, names that I believe others didn’t mention yet:
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
Cleofe

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_f]Solange[/name_f]
If you’re having trouble with the flow of some of your favorites with mn [name_f]Angela[/name_f], may you could use a variation, like [name_f]Angeline[/name_f], that honors your [name_f]MIL[/name_f] and sounds good with whatever name you want to choose?
Some Italian names I like:
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]

[name_f]Paola[/name_f]

[name_f]Silvana[/name_f]
[name_f]Vittoria[/name_f]
Have you thought of using a variation of [name_f]Angela[/name_f]? [name_f]Angeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Angelique[/name_f] would go well with many of those Italian names.
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_u]Fiore[/name_u]
[name_f]Murielle[/name_f] / [name_f]Mirelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f]
[name_u]Brio[/name_u], [name_f]Anete[/name_f], [name_f]Assisi[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_u]Caro[/name_u], [name_f]Garbo[/name_f], [name_u]Felice[/name_u], [name_f]Lido[/name_f], [name_f]Martedi[/name_f], [name_u]Nico[/name_u], [name_u]Po[/name_u] and [name_f]Rin[/name_f]. These are all the Italian girls names on Nameberry that do not end in ‘a’. You might have to go for a Latin name, as opposed to a purely Italian one:
[name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Auriel[/name_f], [name_f]Briony[/name_f] / [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Ceres[/name_f], [name_u]Claude[/name_u] / [name_f]Claudie[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] / [name_f]Dulcy[/name_f] / [name_f]Dulce[/name_f], [name_f]Flory[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_u]Julianne[/name_u], [name_f]Justine[/name_f], [name_f]Julitte[/name_f], [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_u]Laurence[/name_u], [name_f]Lucerne[/name_f], [name_f]Marin[/name_f], [name_f]Maris[/name_f], [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f], [name_f]Marine[/name_f], [name_f]Maren[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f], [name_f]Ondine[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Oriel[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Sidonie[/name_f], [name_f]Sebastiane[/name_f], [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], [name_f]Verity[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
I am not quite sure what your style is, so I just listed the vast majority of the non ‘a’ sound ending names. Good luck!
I sort of like [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]/[name_f]Clio[/name_f] but I always think of [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] and I don’t know if I always want to be thinking about that when I say my daughter’s name. We don’t believe in changing the name of someone you’re honoring so we wouldn’t look at any variation of [name_f]Angela[/name_f]. Also using a Latin name doesn’t honor my husband’s heritage so that wouldn’t work for us. Nooshi, your second part of the suggestions are nice however of the ones I like, they don’t seem Italian at all. Honestly, I don’t know what we are going to do at this point as it seems as though there really isn’t anything out there. Sorry to waste everyone’s time!
Hmm, what a challenge!
If it’s any consolation, it’s unlikely that the first and middle names will be said together very often - so even though having a lovely flow is nice, no-one will really get the chance to appreciate it very often. Conversely, that means that even if the flow isn’t ideal, no-one’s going to know.
Are you absolutely set on honouring [name_f]Angela[/name_f]? You’re using names to tie in with your husband’s family heritage, and a mn to honour your husband’s side of the family. There’s nothing wrong with that, I actually think it’s a beautiful sentiment, but if you feel unhappy with all Italian name options paired with [name_f]Angela[/name_f], you might have to consider honouring a different relative (or using a first name that isn’t Italian, or just deciding that a non-ideal flow is worth it for having your Italian name preference met and [name_f]Angela[/name_f] as a mn).
Perhaps a different way to honour [name_f]Angela[/name_f] would be to let her choose your child’s middle name - it could be that she has a special name that she never had the chance to bestow on a daughter of her own?
Or would giving [name_f]Angela[/name_f]'s middle name to your child, in either middle or first spot, work to honour her, too?
Or could you use [name_f]Angela[/name_f] in the first name spot?
Perhaps you could talk to her and explain that you want to use an Italian first along with her name in middle spot, but that you’re having an issue with how the whole name sounds - she might have some suggestions, too.
Some of my favourite Italian and Latin names are:
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Romula[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Rafaella[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f]
[name_f]Maris[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
Good luck, salayna - keep us posted on what you decide!
Italian names are lovely! Many Italian names (or another form of them) top baby name lists in the United States. Current stars include [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] and [name_f]Gabriela[/name_f].
I encourage you to consider some Italian saint names during your baby-name search. All of these names are from Italian saints or prominent Italian women. I added “[name_f]Angela[/name_f]” for you. Enjoy:

*Raffaella [name_f]Angela[/name_f]
*Rossella [name_f]Angela[/name_f]
Some of these names might not be exclusively Italian – but as I mentioned, they are names of either prominent women from [name_f]Italy[/name_f] or Italian saints.
Be sure to post in Nameberry birth announcements when your little one arrives! Good luck!
([name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f], followed by Rossella [name_f]Angela[/name_f]! [name_m]Both[/name_m] are [name_f]HEAVENLY[/name_f]! Your little girl will be very blessed. I think [name_f]Angela[/name_f] CAN work as a middle name.)
One of my favorite names has always been [name_f]Bianca[/name_f]…
I think [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_f]Angeline[/name_f] would be lovely.

I love [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] as a first name (if [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] doesn’t ruin it for you), 2 birds, 1 stone so to speak Then you can give her a middle from your side. It is a tradition in my family to give a daughter the mother’s first name as a middle, but I didn’t like “[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]Julie[/name_u]” so we went with “[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]” and I couldn’t be happier with the decision. Give yourself time to mull over the options and you will figure out what is right for you!
Some of the ones I have seen above that I like and think flow well (though it really depends on your last name too) are:
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f] (though I tend to shorten names quickly, and I’m not sure what a nn would be)
[name_f]Pia[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f] (I’m actually suprised that I like this one, with L so close to the end in both)
[name_f]Mirella[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f]
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_f]Angela[/name_f]
If not any of those, can you look further back in your husband’s family tree for ideas? [name_f]My[/name_f] mother’s side is Italian and some of our names (and what they are called since coming to the US) are [name_f]Maria[/name_f] (LOTS of Marias), [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] ([name_u]Lee[/name_u]), [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] ([name_f]Lucille[/name_f]), [name_f]Santa[/name_f] ([name_u]Sandy[/name_u]), Rosemaria ([name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]), [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] ([name_f]Josephine[/name_f]/[name_u]Jay[/name_u]), [name_f]Paola[/name_f], and [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] ([name_f]Catherine[/name_f]).
Good luck!
What if you used [name_f]Angela[/name_f] as her first name and picked another family name for her middle?
Okay, as an Italian, many names I read in this trend are definitely unheard in Italy and they would definitely stand out as non-Italian (like Sienna, or Nicola, which is very male here just like Andrea or Rosario, so be careful), others are just spelled differently, and they could cause trouble if you ever have to use their written form in Italy. The list of oceansunrise was a pretty good one, but I put asterisks on the ones you rarely use or those which have a different spelling.
