We found out this week we’re having a girl. Our 2 year old son is [name_m]Foster[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. We’ve been discussing [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Briar[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is our top choice but I worry it’s too clunky sounding? Like it doesn’t roll off the tongue. Having the same -ter ending like my son doesn’t bother me. And I love the nickname option of [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. If we used this name, we’d likely do [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] (after my mom [name_f]Lori[/name_f]).
[name_f]Briar[/name_f] keeps catching my attention for some reason but it isn’t my fiance’s favorite. [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] was our top choice when we had our son had he been a girl but someone I know used [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] so now I associate it with her and it’s lost some appeal (she lives in another state so it’d be fine if I wanted to use it).
Anyways, I would just love some feedback on these names. Maybe some middle names that you would suggest for them or new first names you’d suggest based on these. I feel like I’ve looked at every name and just want to be sure before we set anything in stone.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is so beautiful! It has such a romantic feel to it! [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Briar[/name_f] are nice names, but they just don’t stand out to me like [name_u]Winter[/name_u] does. I also think it fits best with [name_m]Foster[/name_m] (adorable too, btw:))
My favorite is still [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], but I also love [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], as well as [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Natalie[/name_f].
I think that [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] is a beautiful choice, and what a nice nod to your your mom! It sounds great with brother [name_m]Foster[/name_m], too. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is one that has been getting more attention in recent years, and I do see the appeal - it has a nice, round, sound – but [name_f]Briar[/name_f] alone is an image a bit too prickly for me. [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] is nice too, but it’s not at all uncommon for favorite names to fall by the wayside, and it’s ok to say “goodbye” if it just doesn’t have the sparkle it used to have.
I love [name_u]Winter[/name_u] or [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and with [name_m]Foster[/name_m] I love with the choices!
I love [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], but am going to leave some other optiosn that could also honor [name_f]Lori[/name_f].
I think [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is a beautiful choice. If you want to honor [name_f]Lori[/name_f], I think [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is a perfect choice. If you’re not sold on a middle, maybe a color name like your son.
Congratulations! I personally love [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_m]Foster[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. If you are worried about the clunkyness, then you can always use your preferred nickname of [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] to introduce her. But it really isn’t clunky at all.
Besides the combination of [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_m]Foster[/name_m] is absolutely precious! They sound like lovely characters in a children’s book.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is swoon-worthy, and I like the shared -ter ending with [name_m]Foster[/name_m].
I also like the previous suggestion of [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] over [name_f]Briar[/name_f] to avoid the prickly meaning. But [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is a winner!
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is really pretty and I love nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. I did remember that [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_m]Foster[/name_m] is a character in the kids’ book [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting, so they seem a little matchy, but I think you could still use it. I think [name_f]Briar[/name_f] could also work, and I like the suggestion of [name_f]Bryony[/name_f].
Thank you everyone! I’m 98% sure her name is [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]. I’m ready to commit, just waiting on my fiance to admit it’s her name lol.
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f] is pretty and I have considered it before but I think I still prefer [name_f]Briar[/name_f].
I love [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting and I had considered that but I don’t mind it since she’ll be introduced as [name_u]Winter[/name_u] and I’ll likely be the only one that calls her [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. And my name is [name_u]Shilo[/name_u]
I do like [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] but more for a boy and my fiance didn’t like it. I’m sure she’ll be called [name_u]Win[/name_u] at some point. [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is super cute though.
Thank you everyone for the feedback. I feel a lot better about our choice and we’ve decided her name is definitely [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f] by a landslide. It’s beautiful. I have loved this name for decades.
[name_f]Briar[/name_f], really? It’s a noun, meaning a tangled mass of prickly plants. Why would you want to name a sweet, little baby girl such a thorny name?
And [name_u]Winter[/name_u]? I can only imagine the chilly reception she would get with an icy name that also means the last stage of our lives (decline, decay, etc.)
People should really consider when they choose nouns for names, that their various meanings could be negative attributes you unknowingly bestow upon your child.
