It's not that bad... Is it?

I’m crushing on the name [name]Owen[/name], but if I were to have a boy with my current partner his last name would be McKeown (prn ma-[name]KEW[/name]-en). Does [name]Owen[/name] McKeown sound ridiculous? I think it looks worse than it actually sounds. It’s not really that rhymey in my head, but I might be living in denial. What do you think of [name]Owen[/name] McKeown?

Sorry kind of sounds too similar

I don’t think it’s too bad. I have the same problems with a lot of my favorite names. It would be doable in my opinion.

It looks a little close to me. But, there are people out there named [name]Phillip[/name] [name]Phillips[/name] and [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Mack[/name]. I think that the worst that ever happens is someone notices that it is close, and then gets over it! It doesn’t seem like it is that big of a deal =]

Two of my favourite girl names rhyme HARD with our last name and many more names just sound weirdly sing-song. So I feel your pain. And I really like [name]Owen[/name], but [name]Owen[/name] McKeown is pretty jangly, sorry.

We ought to trade last names.

^ haha. What are your girls names if you don’t mind me asking. Maybe they’re not as bad as you think. I can spread my denial to you!

I agree that it looks worse than it sounds, but it does sound a little singsongy. It’s a bit too close for me to use personally, but [name]Owen[/name] is a nice name! Maybe you could use it as a MN?

[name]Ramona[/name] & [name]Naomi[/name]. Not so bad, you say? What last name is possibly ruining two relatively classic names so thoroughly?

My maiden name is 100% fine with them. But then I married a man of Irish descent. A Moroney, to be specific.

[name]Ramona[/name] Moroney
[name]Naomi[/name] Moroney

cry

^ Yeah, OK that’s pretty bad :frowning:

I wouldn’t do it, sorry:( [name]Owen[/name] is a great name though!

I think it’s fine and not too rhymey

Who cares if it’s rhymey? I like it that way. It sounds like a name from a quirky indie movie (which works for me, lol).

I don’t think it’s that bad, but it does make me think of children’s poetry. You might get some looks, but I think it’s doable.

Sounds better than it looks but there are so many other names out there maybe it would be better left alone. I’m having this problem as I love willow but my married name is [name]Willis[/name] - Williow [name]Willis[/name] - i couldn’t do this to my child no matter how much i love it

Wouldn’t worry about it. I think it is fine.

I don’t think it sounds too bad when you actually say it, but when you read it it sounds quite rhymey. Have you considered the different spellings of [name]Owen[/name]-[name]Eoin[/name]/[name]Eoghan[/name]?

It sounds okay to me, but it looks too similar. I wouldn’t do it unfortunately.

Makes me think of the author, [name]Ian[/name] [name]McEwan[/name]. They are very similar sounding, but I don’t think it’s bad. I love the name [name]Owen[/name]

I don’t think its that bad, may be a bit of a tongue twister, but its not horrible.
