IUD thread (copper)

Anyone here had a copper IUD? Did it make you feel weird? I have had one in for a year, and I don’t feel like myself. I was looking into [name_f]Copper[/name_f] Toxicity and specifically Biounavailable copper, which is when the buildup of copper in your body gets so intense your it starts storing in your organs - and it was like reading a checklist of my own symptoms. Like, I have every symptom! So I’m getting this thing out.

The question: have any of you had a copper IUD, what was your experience? Did you notice any physical or psychological changes? And if you had one taken out, how was that experience?
I’m super interested in this!

I haven’t had the copper one, but a lot of my friends have it (I have the non-copper one).
I’ve never heard of anyone reacting to the copper one, but I definitely think if you’re concerned you should see your doctor about it.
I’ve had two versions of the non-copper IUD ([name_f]Mirena[/name_f] and Jaydess in the UK), I had to have the [name_f]Mirena[/name_f] out because it was incompatible with me, the smaller Jaydess is much better for me, but having it taken out is super easy - definitely not the ordeal that having it put in was! They just put in a speculum and pull it out with the string - sharp sting then it’s done.

I’ve not really noticed any physical or psychological changes on this, or in my friends on the copper one, other than the standard period changes you get told about before going on to it.

I stick to the pill myself, but I have had a few friends with IUDs in; some copper, some not. The friend of mine with the copper IUD had hers removed after 6 months for similar reasons to what you have. She (I noticed this as well) would become more irritable as time progressed and she was often complaining that she didn’t feel “right”. She had it removed and the problems ceased after a couple of months after she had it removed. I know the friends of mine who have had IUDs removed have experienced discomfort, but as @maerad said, none have said the discomfort is as bad as when they had it inserted.

Hopefully you feel better once it comes out!

Thanks fir the replies @maired & @lawsonhailey - Yeah I have definitely noticed my rage control is pretty much zero! (And digestive issues I never had, and no sex drive, and other things, minor depression, junky food cravings, sporadic cramping). I recently started supplementing with lots of zinc & magnesium & that has made a noticeable difference, but I’d rather remove the problem, than spend time & money trying to ‘supplement it right’. Good to know it doesn’t hurt as much getting it out. Insertion was super painful (and I have 3 kids!).

I’ll be getting it out on Friday, then sometime in the near future my hubby is getting a Visectomy. Hopefully no slip-ups in the meantime or we might end up with some more naming to do ”
