Are these names ridiculous together? We’ve loved [name_m]Killian[/name_m] for a really long time but didn’t want to use it for our first, mostly because both of our names start with K. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think the clearly different origins sound silly together? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Killian[/name_m] is too soft and snuggly compared to [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]? Would it be weird to have three people with the same initial in a family of four? Can you think of any problems that I haven’t mentioned here? Thank you!
I think [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] and [name_m]Killian[/name_m] are fine together as although different in origin, they share the ‘an’ ending (but are not too matchy with it).
Having said that however, I’m not really a fan of [name_m]Killian[/name_m] as it starts with the word ‘kill’. Perhaps [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] would be an option for you? And also solves your dilemma of 3 people with the same first initial.
I like the name [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], and I think it should be used more often. And I’m not usually one to say a particular combination of sibling names is problematic. However, I would have some reservations about using [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] and [name_m]Killian[/name_m] together. While separately, they are lovely names, I fear the combination would bring to mind death and destruction for too many people. (When combining a name with the word “kill” in it with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], it does cause [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] the Terrible to spring to mind). [name_m]Just[/name_m] because that was my immediate impression doesn’t necessarily mean anyone else will even notice, but it’s something to keep in mind.
I’d second the more traditional spelling of [name_m]Cillian[/name_m].
Thank you! I didn’t even notice that they both end with -an. That’s kind of embarrassing.
I can’t get SO on board with [name_m]Cillian[/name_m]. Does the ‘kill’ part really pop out that much? I’ve seen that comment before, but I just don’t see it as much as most people, I guess.
I love [name_m]Killian[/name_m] and feel it goes perfectly fine with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]. I feel individual names are far more important than a “sib-set”. Also, I wouldn’t worry about [name_m]Killian[/name_m] and the “kill” thing. Most people would never give that a second thought, in my opinion. I mean, tonnes of people have different associations with names. When I was tossing around the name [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] for my son, someone said they would never use it because it reminds them of the hair-loss product Rogaine. hahaha. I appreciated all the feedback, but be sure to take it all with a grain of salt.
I never thought of it like that, but you’re absolutely right! We won’t always be a neat little package of Mommy, Daddy, [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], and Next Kid. Thank you!
SO also pointed out that most people don’t review everything they know about a name as soon as they hear it. We’re thinking about the combination [name_m]Killian[/name_m] [name_m]Bram[/name_m].
