Me and my husband decided we would name a daughter [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] if we had one before we even got married, since we both loved it and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the name of 3 of our 5 grandmothers. He still loves it but now that I’m actually pregnant with a girl, I’ve found I want to name her something a bit more unexpected. I’ve not taken [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] fully off the table but I’m now searching for something a bit more out there.
My first pick would be [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], which my husband has ruled out entirely, along with a couple of a couple of more elaborate flower names ([name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] and [name_f]Primula[/name_f]) and [name_f]Endellion[/name_f]. He’s said he quite likes [name_f]Peony[/name_f] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] when we were discussing flower names in particular (they’re my favourite type of girls names), but not more than [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. The only other name he really likes is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], which I like but feel is just too common now. We also have to consider that our boys are [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and most of the girls names I’ve been loving recently really don’t go with them at all.
I would really appreciate some fresh views on [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to make me fall back in love with it, or some suggestions for new ideas that we both might like (that maybe also come from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?).
I really like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - it’s pretty, light and cute but also full of strength and liveliness. If you’re not feeling it anymore , how about:

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]! Along with [name_f]Bess[/name_f], it’s my favorite [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] derivative. It’s got flounce and confidence, a sort of romantic whimsy that’s grounded by that Z sound. I hope you can fall back in love with it!
[name_m]Man[/name_m], I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], but I also love [name_f]Primula[/name_f] and [name_f]Peony[/name_f]! [name_m]How[/name_m] whimsical. I do think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has a lot of whimsy to her as well, but is obviously a more classic/common choice. A lot of good suggestions have been made!
I feel like from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Busy[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] [name_f]Sable[/name_f] and [name_f]Libbey[/name_f] are the less expected names from it. I’m a fan of [name_f]Effie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] myself.
I adore [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. If I were naming on my own it would likely be the name of my first daughter, but S/O loves [name_f]Alice[/name_f] most (and do love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] too). So here’s hoping for two girls!
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has so much going for it.
It’s sweet and classic while still having that strong ‘Eye’ and Z sound. Feminine but spunky.
There are loads of amazing Elizas in history and literature that can be inspirations.
The name is fun and musical sounding but still respectable.
If you’re still not feeling it, I think you’ve been given some good alternatives. I suggest [name_f]Delilah[/name_f].
I’m not sure if you’re one to wait until the baby’s arrived before naming, but seeing her darling face could be the thing to help [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] recapture your heart.
It sounds like you’ve already gone through a lot of floral names, but I’d like to suggest [name_f]Briony[/name_f], [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u], [name_f]Camellia[/name_f], and [name_f]Holly[/name_f]. I think they balance your love of the unexpected and elaborate with the more traditional [name_u]James[/name_u]. The modern feel of [name_m]Archer[/name_m] helps you branch out a bit further with this name too.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a pretty name. But having some name remorse is normal.
Other names similar to [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]- I know this is a bit of a tough since frozen. But it is another form of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and it’s beautiful. Would you be brave enough?

[name_f]Elizabetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f] ee lee za super cute
As for flower names
[name_f]Peony[/name_f] is beautiful. But might be made fun of being called pee pee or something.
What about
[name_f]Posey[/name_f] poppy?
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is cute but if your partner doesn’t like it what about [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]?
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is awesome, strong and spunky! I love the name, but for what it’s worth, I have never actually met one. My second favorite derivative of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is [name_f]Bess[/name_f], which also reads strong and spunky to me. Other names with a similar vibe:
Maybe [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] feels more common than you’d like, but I have never met an [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (for that matter, all of the Elizabeths I know go by [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or [name_f]Beth[/name_f], and I only know three, despite it being such a popular name).
I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is charming, spunky, and pretty but grounded. It is a bit more romantic and energetic than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but still has that classic beauty.
Maybe I feel sympathy for you because I am very drawn to names you mention, those uncommon but familiar, unexpected names–I love [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] so much!–but I went with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] for my first daughter, one of my all-time favorite names, but one I feel isn’t incredibly adventurous.
However, after reading your post, I realized I’ve never once met a [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] either. I’ve also gotten a gazillion compliments on her name, and a lot of “Oh! I’ve never actually met a [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]!” I think your post just reinforced my choice and my love for [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (I wasn’t really doubting it, but there are times when I wonder what it would be like if she were [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] or [name_u]Winter[/name_u] instead). Maybe you would have a similar outcome if you used Eliza.
I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] would be great with your boys’ names. If she comes out not looking like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], then don’t feel obligated, but I think it’s a fantastic name. Plus, you can always go with an adventurous middle. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Peony[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Emerald[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]Lake[/name_u]…
