What do you think?
Maybe as a middle name, rather than a first.
*Not pregnant, just looking at names.
I remember reading a thread on this before…I think the general opinion was the gravy starter came to mind for people. I do like the sound and look ofit though. I think it could work in the middle.
I think it will be constantly misheard as ‘rue,’ which means to regret something.
It’s a decently common surname such that in my job I associate with two things: 1) a famous bacteriologist who helped discover the mechanism, and vaccine, behind rabies and diphtheria, and his name is still associated with the earliest reactions;
2) a surgeon who invented a way to reroute the intestines when parts needed to be chopped out for cancer. [name]Both[/name] good associations.
It’s not a bad name at all. There may be pronunciation issues depending on where you live.
People will probably assume one or both parents are foodies or chefs since roux is a thickening agent (equal parts flour & fat). However, [name]Roux[/name] also means red and a little boy named “red” is charming.
It might be worth noting Roux is a shade of red, it does not mean red, that’s “rouge”, so to break it down Roux is a surname, a shade of red, a redhead or a cooking substance.
Usually in my experience if someone is being called “Roux” it’s because they have red hair and I admit I was a little surprised the first time I saw it come up on nameberry because I’d never considered it a name possibility. Personally it’s nms and since it’s used in so many redhead jokes it’s not something I would consider. That’s probably never going to be an issue in an English speaking country but people might be aware of the cooking term so if someone were to use it as a name I would recommend you put it in the middle.
I like it as a middle name. Actually, it’s kind of cute :D. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Rue[/name]? Despite the meaning of the word rue, it’s attracting a fair amount of attention (mostly because of The Hunger Games) on Nameberry. It’s pronounced the same as [name]Roux[/name].
I think it’d be cute in the middle spot, it makes me think of red and little ‘Roo’ from [name]Winnie[/name] the Pooh
I also thought of [name]Winnie[/name] the Pooh. It could be cute in the middle, but I don’t know about the first name spot.
[name]Roux[/name] isn’t a name imo… but then neither is blue
I really like it. Go watch [name]Johnny[/name] Depp in “Chocolat”, and you won’t have any issue with the gravy starter coming to mind when you hear this name!
I’m from [name]Louisiana[/name], so [name]Roux[/name] for me, just automatically makes me think Gumbo. So for me, I don’t think I could ever really consider it a name. But it’s not awful sounding. I guess it really depends on how much you love it.
