IVF Baby Girl 💛

[name_f]My[/name_f] wife and I just found out we have a [name_m]Baby[/name_m] [name_f]Girl[/name_f] and a [name_m]Baby[/name_m] [name_m]Boy[/name_m] on ice, ready for a [name_f]February[/name_f] transfer! :tada:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]The[/name_m] problem we have is that we cannot decide on names because we have such different tastes.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] wife is American and I’m Irish/Scottish. [name_f]She[/name_f] likes last names or boy names for girls and I like Celtic/Gaelic names for girls.

[name_f][/name_f]

Wife likes names like [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_f]Stevie[/name_f], [name_f]Miller[/name_f] etc. for girls, I like [name_f]Orla[/name_f], [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] (Keeva) etc. for girls. [name_f]My[/name_f] wife’s No.1 girl name right now is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and I don’t mind [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but it’s far too popular it’s put me off it, even though it has everything I’m looking for. It’s Scottish, it’s got nature ties and it’s essentially a girl name for a girl.

[name_f][/name_f]

I’m Irish/Scottish but have lived in [name_m]Australia[/name_m] for 8 years and I’d love a name that honors that somehow, like a name that means waves or something to do with [name_m]Australia[/name_m]. [name_m]Or[/name_m] even just a name with ties to [name_m]Australia[/name_m] (i.e. [name_f]Rooney[/name_f] where [name_m]Roo[/name_m] is a nod to Kangaroo, or something)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Any[/name_f] and all suggestions are welcome, preferably feminine names for girl and the [name_f]Girl[/name_f] Embryo is our strongest and we’ll be putting her in.

[name_f][/name_f]

Please, please help me help us!!!

[name_f][/name_f]

Middle name will be [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and the last name rhymes with Shmorgan

[name_f]Skye[/name_f] checks most of your boxes! Scottish, nature themed, similar sound to [name_f]Isla[/name_f], a place in AUS, semi gender-neutral/tomboyish

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- similar sounding to [name_f]Isla[/name_f], has several natural meanings (sea, earth, life) depending on the culture, [name_m]Kai[/name_m] as a nickname could be a nice compromise for her wanting a more masculine name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Selah[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- not sure how many boxes this checks but I think it’s a beautiful, less common alternative to [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Darcy[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- love this with the chosen middle/last combo, very gender neutral, [name_f]Irish[/name_f] roots, unexpected

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- nn’s Lu/Lulu or [name_f]Tally[/name_f] make it a little more gender neutral, [name_f]Irish[/name_f] roots, watery meaning

[name_f][/name_f]

wildcard
[name_m]Tully[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- this one is gaelic, gives off a laidback, fun, aussie vibe, aligns with your wife’s style.

Congrats!

I really like Rooney - that would seem to be the unicorn name of a last name, Australian nod and Celtic/Irish. Isla does tick the boxes and also resonates with Australia but it’s super popular and a bit choppy and as if you’re trying to speak a Nordic language, with Nora and your last name.

Take or leave, but I also really don’t like distinctly boy names for girls - unless they’re nicknames. So no Stevie or Max (or Billie or James etc). I often don’t like the sound but I also see it as a little un-egalitarian / against feminism - until there are boy Chloes, Lizzies, and Janes. :flexed_biceps:

Here are some other potential names:

Avalon (though not sure if too many repeat sounds)
Bronte
Adelaide
Airlie (beach name in Oz)
Aurelia
Aurora nn Rory (though to many Or sounds!)
Opal (nod to Oz national precious stone)
Osian (boys’ name but sounds faintly like ocean as not to Australia)
Kirra (Indigenous)
Kirrily
Kylie
Kiah / Kaia (this could be a good option for the three needs)
Tallulah nn Tully
Sky(e)
Indy / Indi
Marlene nn Marlee
Tahnee / Tarni
Matilda
Mairéad
Summer
Soleil
Sunday - Sunny
Tierney (not best flow to Nora though)
Roisin (Roh-sheen but as above)

I was going to suggest Nora in top spot but maybe too rhythmic with your last name
You could think about honouring Nora via Eleanor or Honor/Honour or similar meanings.

[name_m]Oh[/name_m] wow congratulations!!

[name_f][/name_f]

This is a tricky one isn’t it! I agree with @EloiseT[name_f][/name_f] that [name_f]Rooney[/name_f] does seem to tick all the boxes although it’s not the best flow into [name_f]Nora[/name_f], and that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] fits the criteria too but I$la N0ra Shmorgan is [name_f][/name_f] choppy. [name_m]You[/name_m] probably need a one or three syllable first name to balance or something that doesn’t end in -a.

[name_f][/name_f]

I love the previous suggestions of [name_f]Skye[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], and [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]!

[name_f][/name_f]

Maybe

[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bellamy[/name_m] (Irish, surnamey, but with option of [name_f]Bella[/name_f] or even Mimi; it’s also a beach in Sydney)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Blaine[/name_m] (nn Lainey?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Bridie[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Cassidy[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Meriel[/name_f] (Irish ‘of the bright sea’!! [name_f]So[/name_f] pretty)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sheridan[/name_f] (means ‘searcher’ which I kinda love for an international family? like representing your journey)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Delaney[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Albany[/name_m] ‘Alba’
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Holland[/name_f] (since [name_m]Australia[/name_m] was once [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]Holland[/name_f], maybe a bit colonial?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Iluka[/name_f] (indigenous ‘by the sea’)

Congrats that’s so exciting!!

Some more suggestions

MaĂlĂn / Mailin (pronounced May-lin, Gaelic but more intuitive?)
Bonnie
Maisie
Maeve / Maeva
Imogen
Harlow
Maxine (nn Max - could try to find a feminine name with a more neutral nickname?)
Amelie
Iona
Ainsley
Rowan (too masculine?)

Seconding Kaia, Tallulah / Tully, and Indy! Best of luck! :heart_decoration:

Banksia comes to mind with Banks/Banksi as nicknames that might appeal to your partner.

Shmorgan :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rooney[/name_f] seems ideal to me? [name_f][/name_f] Seems sort of surnamey, the [name_m]Roo[/name_m] ties to [name_m]Australia[/name_m], Gaelic in origin
. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] might be a fun middle to honor [name_m]Australia[/name_m] if you can’t find a fn with ties to it, like [name_f]Rooney[/name_f] [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]? [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Or[/name_m] what about a full name that can have [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] as a nn, is [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] more workable with her taste? [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] makes sense for it but could also have a more gender neutral nn like [name_f]Ronnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Wynne[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

It doesn’t sound like it’s very appealing to you, but I’m wondering about other unisex Gaelic surname options like [name_f]Riley[/name_f], McKenzie, etc. [name_f][/name_f] I certainly wouldn’t put them on the same level as [name_f]Orla[/name_f] and [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] though.

[name_f][/name_f]

Which otherwise leaves potentially a Gaelic first name with a gender neutral nn, like:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Liadan[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dani[/name_f] or [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (excuse the lack of accents, I know I’m missing them but I’m so insecure about where they go lol!)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ciara[/name_f] nn [name_m]Ciar[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rowan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] nn [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Orla[/name_f] nn [name_m]Rory[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Fiona[/name_f] nn [name_m]Finn[/name_m] or [name_m]Fionn[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sasha[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f] nn [name_m]Fionn[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Alana[/name_f] nn Lani/Lonnie
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Alva[/name_f] or [name_m]Ailbe[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Alva[/name_f] is used so interchangeably on boys and girls in so many different nationalities—this one seems so accessible to me
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aisling[/name_f] nn [name_m]Ash[/name_m]?
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Alastriona[/name_f] nn [name_m]Al[/name_m], [name_m]Aster[/name_m], [name_f]Astri[/name_f], [name_m]Ari[/name_m]?
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Aran[/name_m], [name_m]Galway[/name_m], [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Skye[/name_f], or any other place name in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]?
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Bidelia[/name_f] nn [name_m]Dell[/name_m]?
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Bridie[/name_f] (no real masculine nn but I think [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] is adorable :sob::sob:)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]CroĂa[/name_f] (the most adorable meaning, maybe nn [name_m]Croy[/name_m] or Roy?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Fiadh[/name_f] or [name_f]Fianna[/name_f] (can’t think of a gender neutral nn, but these feel a little more widely appealing so I thought maybe there could be room for compromise?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Maura[/name_f] or [name_f]Moira[/name_f] nn [name_m]Rory[/name_m] or [name_m]Mo[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Muriel[/name_f] nn [name_m]Mel[/name_m] or even [name_f]Miri[/name_f]?
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sinead[/name_f] nn [name_m]Shea[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Tallula[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lou[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

And [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and [name_f]Oona[/name_f] just because I love them :sob::sob::joy:

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck finding some middle ground!

I adore Riley and she has a cousin with a name similar to McKenzie.. a lot of Celtic names run in both our families so it’s hard to find one she’ll even put as a potential on the list :sob::broken_heart: I appreciate all of your suggestions! I’ve mentioned Rooney to her and she’s not against it but she thinks it doesn’t age.. like she can’t see a 15 yr old, 27 yr old or 54 yr old with the first name Rooney.. and I kind of agree.. I feel like we’re living in a moment where nickname names are “in” and some of them just feel like forever babies (i.e. Archie and Lola etc.) (idk if that makes sense?)

Firstly wishing you all the best with the IVF process!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rooney[/name_f] I think is awesome fits all the boxes and tbh is such a cool ‘it’ girl name super awesome. I love the nickname [name_m]Roo[/name_m] really adorable with the links to kangaroos as well super cute. I love the idea of [name_f]Rooney[/name_f] [name_f]Nora[/name_f] such a gorgeous name appreciate the flow is a little off but I like it.

[name_f][/name_f]

I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is a fashionable choice but again very popular and maybe a bit obvious.

[name_f][/name_f]

You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] ~ I think [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] is a lovely name she’s chirpy, bright and has the sweet meaning ‘beautiful, cheerful’ which I think conjures up imagery surrounding [name_m]Australia[/name_m] ~ beautiful beaches, landscapes & architecture ~ whilst also honouring your heritage. I think she’s so fun.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] ~ she’s a gorgeous Celtic choice that feels magical, ethereal and elegant. I feel she also links to [name_m]Australia[/name_m] with her lovely meaning ‘daughter of the sea’ stunning name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] ~ I think [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] is such a fun name and has a similar vibe to your other favourite names. She’s of [name_f]English[/name_f] origin granted but I think she’s fun and has the bright meaning ‘of the sea’.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Kinvara[/name_f] ~ I think [name_f]Kinvara[/name_f] is such an intriguing [name_f]Irish[/name_f] place name that feels very cool girl but also links to [name_m]Australia[/name_m] with her fun meaning ‘head of the sea’ which is so sparkly.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] ~ an [name_f]Irish[/name_f] name with connections to water which I feel works as a connection to [name_m]Australia[/name_m] she’s beautiful I love the [name_f]Tally[/name_f] nickname and how she sounds with [name_f]Nora[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fiadh[/name_f] ~ she’s a bright fashionable name which gives me cooler [name_f]Isla[/name_f] vibes. I think [name_f]Fiadh[/name_f] is beautiful and I love the meaning ‘wild’ which connects to [name_m]Australia[/name_m] beautiful wild landscapes definitely feels in keeping with my thoughts on the Australian outback!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Aisling[/name_f] ~ I think [name_f]Aisling[/name_f] is an ethereal name that feels dreamy and sparkly. I think [name_f]Aisling[/name_f] meaning ‘dream’ could be connected to your path to [name_m]Australia[/name_m] following your dreams with the relocation

[name_f][/name_f]

I also wanted to say to create that flow with the middle name I think a lot of these choices could be better paired with a longer middle name maybe something like [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] (so you still keep Nora) but the additional syllables help create a better flow.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps
