It’s an alright name. It makes me think of elephant tusks and ivory statues. I think the main issue is that it isn’t my style.
I wondered about the connection to elephant, hippos, walruses, etc.
Thanks!
Yeah, it’s not really my style either. It comes across as a bit…pretentious, I guess? I know it’s a shade of white/elephant tusk material, but it kind of feels like an unnecessary twist on [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Avery[/name].
It actually was a bit of an accidental twist on the two.
I like both [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name]. I couldn’t see using [name]Avery[/name] for a girl and [name]Ivy[/name] tends to remind me of hospitals and IV’s rather than the plant. It then occurred to me that [name]Ivory[/name] sounded very much like [name]Avery[/name] and had the beginning sound of [name]Ivy[/name].
I’m surprised you thought it came off as a bit pretentious. I thought it sounded more homey.
Thank you!
I really like [name]Ivory[/name] in theory, but I think it would come across as stiff in real life. It doesn’t flow off the tongue easily. I think it’s be lovely as a middle name with a softer first name to take off it’s edge, but I’d veto it as a first name.
It would be considered as a middle name only.
My sister’s middle name is [name]Ivory[/name] and she likes it. She also gets a lot of compliments on it.
I immediately thought of elephant tusks. And I agree with the comment that said it was somehow pretentious… something about naming your child after a rare, expensive substance, and the image it conjures of wealthy hunters in pith helmets!
As a middle name, [name]Ivory[/name] is a beautiful, rare choice. I love it! I agree with you that it sound kind of homey, but in an elegant way. For some reason, it has the expensive & hunting connotations for me when used as a first name, but when used as a middle it reminds me of soft piano music. Are you comfortable sharing what first names you are considering? I’m just so curious, because I imagine they must sound really nice together!
I think of [name]Keenan[/name] [name]Ivory[/name] Wayans, I don’t think a lot of people will make the connection, but I think it would be okay in the middle spot.
Me too…
I think of [name]Keenan[/name] [name]Ivory[/name] Wayans and soap, and the song [name]Ebony[/name] and [name]Ivory[/name].
I think it would be fine as a middle name. Not my personal style really, but I don’t think of it as odd or unusual.
It’s just a general consideration so we didn’t really do any serious first name discussions. I don’t mind sharing the names we did discuss though
