Ivy or Evelyn?

Our baby girl is due in a week and we can’t decide between these two. Our last name is very short so they both will work with many middle names. If we went with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], she would probably end up as [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f] most of the time.

Both are so lovely, but i have to go with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. I find it so beautiful and elegant and the nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is perfect.

That’s a difficult choice, they are both lovely! If I was naming my own child, I would probably choose [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] over the two, just because I like nickname proof names and it is a bit less popular than [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].

I much prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], for sure!

I prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] - I’ve seen people really butcher the name [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] when they say it. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] can really only be said in one way.

[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is #4 where I live; [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is far less popular. I would probably choose [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

I personally prefer the charming [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], but if nicknames are important to you, [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is a nice choice!

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f], by a mile.

I love both! [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is more my personal style, but I don’t like shortening names. Plus [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is much less popular. So, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] gets my vote.

I adore [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. I am not particularly fond of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], I only picture poison ivy and house ivy. Sorry.

I much prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] since [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] does have pronunciation issues.

Somewhat different associations of personality suggested by both these pretty, artistic names: [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] seems like the gentler, steadfast and principled type. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] sounds more outward, carelessly brilliant younger sister. If I had an [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] I’d go with [name_f]Evy[/name_f] ("[name_f]Evvy[/name_f]") as a nn not [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (“Eeevie”).

I adore [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] but I wouldn’t see the purpose in ruining it with a nickname. If you’re going to call her [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f], just name her [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. It’s just as long as [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] ([name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is also cute). Also, are you pronouncing eva like ev-ah or ee-va? Because [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is pronounced ee-vee. Like I get how you get [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (ev-ah) from [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] but not [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. I don’t know why everything has to have a nickname. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is beautiful on it’s own.

I much prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. I just can’t warm to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].
