I’m really torn I love both names but I can’t decide, which one do you guys like better?
I love both names too, so not much help here! Does either one sound better with the surname? If popularity matters to you is one more popular where you live. I’m in Australia and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] has been a top 10 name for many years, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] hasn’t been in top 10 (well, not for 100 yrs anyway!) [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is just so fresh and sweet though, popularity aside, it’s probably my favourite.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is my fave out of these two but I don’t particularly like either. For [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], I have bad feelings and memories that I can’t quite pinpoint. For [name_f]Lily[/name_f], it’s partly due to the popularity.
Spellings - [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lillie[/name_f], [name_f]Lilly[/name_f], Lyli
I like both but prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].
I love both but prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname. I definitely think it’s very pretty as a full name but I think it is better as a nickname for [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] etc. Therefore I would choose [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] between [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] :).
I think it’s about feel more than anything, because they’re pretty even on every other level. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is more spunky, sweet and everyday, it’s easily usable and every person suits [name_f]Lily[/name_f] because it’s so versatile. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] makes me picture bold pinks, yellows and blues, days at the beach and in big flower gardens with a picnic.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] has a more classic feel, still down to earth but with a touch more old-fashioned charm, elegant and soft down to her bones. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] gives me a more cream and gold toned imagery, something luxe but practical, and I think of aesthetically pleasing autumnal scenes and vineyards with red brick walls draped in ivy.
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] for me! But objectively, I think that’s only because [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is so, so popular where I live so instead of imagining one little girl, the name conjures up a kind of generic image of all the little Lilys I’ve known. But if popularity isn’t an issue for you they are both lovely, pretty names.
I feel the same as you, not sure which one I like more.
Both are lovely and usable but I can find faults with both, like how [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] sounds Like an IV drip and you wouldn’t want to be yelling it out at a hospital and how [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is super popular, particularly with [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fans, and that’s the next generation that’ll be having kids.
If you love both and can’t decide how about taking something form both? Like [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. The I from [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] with the L sound from [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]/[name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilah[/name_f]. [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] as a nickname of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]. I’m out of ideas but i’m sure if you sat and thought about it you could come up with similar combinations and one of them just might strike you as being the right balance.
My daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] which I love, and had it been her first name, she would have been [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for short. It’s so sweet and cute on a little girl.
That being said, I adore [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and it was on my list for a first name for our new baby, had he been a girl. It’s cute on a little one, but it also ages quite well too. It is one of those few names that I feel is genuinely timeless and works so well at any age, any life path, career, etc.
PP above, [name_u]Madison[/name_u], is totally on track offering [name_f]Isla[/name_f] as a compromise between the two, as well! That name is so beautiful and also ages very well!
I like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], but love [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
I would choose [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. Both names are lovely but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is has been too popular for my taste and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] feels more unexpected. Another thing to consider is that often names get shortened and the 6 year old [name_f]Lily[/name_f] that I know gets called [name_f]Lil[/name_f] by her family which I don’t care for although that may not be something that bothers you, or that you would be concerned with.
I really love both names! But if I absolutely had to choose I think I’d go with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]! You really cannot go wrong with either though
I prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] feels a bit overused.
I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
I met an [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] the other day, she was in her 60s. I thought it was very refreshing to hear the name, as it’s uncommon. However, it didn’t really suit her. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] it’s a harder name to wear.
For that reason I like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] more. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a lovely, classic name, and is more easily wearable.
Personally, I prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].
I’m more partial to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a first name, but I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] as a middle!
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] gets my vote!
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] gets my vote.
I’m a [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is one of my two very favorite names, so this is hard. I agree with pp that they have different imagery, so it’s all about which vibe you prefer.
I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is more delicate and feminine. It’s more common, but also more universally likeable. Some people really hate the sound of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (IV, poison ivy…) [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is light, airy, and lovely. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is a little quirkier and more down-to-earth. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] feels bookish and less frilly. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is pink and white, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is green and blue.
